Make sure you're not shooting on no-flash auto mode. Also, in P, A, and M modes you'll have to press the flash button on the side of the camera by the lens mount in order for the flash to pop up. If it's not popping on regular auto mode, make sure you don't have it disabled in the menu.

Nikon D5100 camera flash does not pop-up. Any suggestions?

You can't pop up the flash in the Auto mode. In this mode the camera decides whether to use the flash or not.

Try switching to one of the PSAM modes. Does the flash then pop up when you push the flash button?

Flash always pops up

Take it off green rectangle and set it on P. Then the flash will only pop up if you push the flash button

Cannon error 05

Error 05 means that something mechanically prevents built in flash to pop up. Ensure that nothing is blocking flash. Switch in P mode and press flash button to pop it up. If it does not pop up - try _gently_ to help it to pop up. If you succed in popping up the flash - check it for any dirt with can prevent flash from popping up.

Canon Internal Flash will not Pops up and will not flash. Is there something I can check for or replace? I have a cannon rebel xti, the external flash works great, the button to make the flash pop up will...

Is it trying to pop the flash and making noise, or is there no noise at all?
If it's audibly trying and it won't pop up, it's stuck and something is blocking it. May need to send it in.
If there is no sound, then something is making it think that there's an external flash attached. Check out this photo here:

I have a canon rebel xti with an 18 to 55 lens .. I recently bought an external flash to sit in the hot shoe .. now when I removed the flash from the hot shoe .. the cameras own flash will not pop up and...

I had the same problem.
Look closely at the hotshoe. Inside it, way over to the side, under one of the tabs on the side, is a tiny metal strip. When you attach an external flash, the strip is pushed down and holds down a tiny button that deactivated the pop-up flash. The strip can get bent so that it doesn't let the button come up even when the external flash is removed.
Very gently take a fingernail or a jeweler's screwdriver and run it underneath the metal strip. I had to do it a couple of times to get mine working again, but it's working great now!

Canon Camera Rebel XTi reads error 05 and the flash will not pop up

Err 05 means: Something obstructed the built-in flash's pop-up operation. Turn off the main switch and turn it on again.

Prepare to press the flash request button with your left hand. With your right hand, position your thumb and finger to gently pry up the flash head, perhaps using fingernails. Push the button and pry. With that help, it should pop up.

Error "Err05" keeps initiating preventing flash operating

There are two versions of this problem: 1. The flash does not pop-up. 2. The flash does pop-up.

Here’s the fix to the err05 msg when the flash does pop-up. This will work on the XTi and perhaps on similar Canon cameras:

The pop-up flash has two legs. Look at the pivot point of the right leg (”right” when looking into the lens). Just in front of the pivot is a very small spring-load pin on the “roof” of the camera body.
This pin is the sensor that tells the camera the state of the flash. The pin is pushed down when the pop-up flash is closed and is suppose to quickly spring up when the flash is opened. Problem is, the pin sometimes gets dirty and drags. When it is slow to spring up … you get the err05 message.

Fix: Take a small jeweler’s screwdriver and dip the tip in isopropyl alcohol. (Don’t use any other solvent unless it’s designed for cleaning electronic parts!) Then touch the screwdriver tip to the pin. Do this several times until the pin area is nicely wet. Then push the pin up and down until it is able to spring up quickly.

Enjoy.

Canon 20d flash

push the flash into its resting place with a little pressure, turn unit over, take an image requiring flash while pushing on the flash and then quickly release the flash.
something is likely broken and may clear out when camera in alternate position.
otherwise, off to service. don't force it.
good luck
