You can change the Radio station by using the button on the top of the stereo system. The double arrows left and right will change the radio station when in "Radio" mode.

Test remote by putting next to AM radio at around 600 on band and hitting buttons. If the radio chirps the remote is transmitting. Every button should work. And if it does work then the remote receiving section on your unit is fubar.
Check the pins on the inside of the Ipod and the dock. It could be making contact with the power pins but not the send receive pins. Small pin will help you bend these out gently to make contact again.
