Disassembly problem One of the Rca plugs on the front has broken of with the pin still in it. I'm trying to reach the back of the front, but the systemboard is still on it and I can't manage to disassemble it despite all the screws are driven out of it. It seems as if there is still a fastener on the side of the volume knob, but I can't figure out what it is. Anybody with useful information for this problem?

Most volume controls have a retention nut on the front of them. If you take the knob off, you should be able to see and remove the nut.

Can you use a sheet metal screw to extract the pin from the broken connector?

  • Nico van Leeuwen

I have thought of it as a solution, but I was afraid that it might damage the shell. Do you think it isn't a very big risk? I have almost reached it from the other side now, but am afraid to damage the system board because it isn't easy to pull it off, do you have any idea how this is fastened?

Use the screw! It is easier and less likely to damage the main board

SOURCE: Hi, I have a SR92

Is it on all audio sources or only certain ones? Have you swapped the speakers Left-to-Right to isolate the speaker from the signal chain as a cause?

If it's only an analog source doing it I would suspect a bad audio cable or a switch contact somewhere in the signal path. Typically, it might be a switch you rarely use, like a Tape Monitor or Mute. It's wise to occasionally (with power OFF) manipulate all manual controls throughput their ranges a number of times to wipe oxides from their contacts.

My elite ti 9 when on sonar presents a jumbled up picture.it scroles but also has a partial bottom picture on the same screan

Sounds like one of the pins on the cable from your transducer is bent where it plugs into the back of the unit. check that first, then ensure the plug is all the way in. If it's not that, it's possible a wire is broken in the cable. You could try the wiggle test. With the unit on, have someone watch the screen and wiggle the wire that you can reach working from one end to the other. if the screen flashes or changes while you do this in a certain spot, there's your problem. This kind of problem usually comes from the wire being tight where it goes around a corner. Heat and vibration will finish the job

My Asus lap top will not turn on or charge. There are no charge lights. What can I do?

Look carefully at power plug port. If center pin wobble or loose then order that part for your motherboard and take to any electronics shop to have installed. If power plug port not broken. Then use multimeter to check output of your power block. If you don't have a multimeter, any electronics shop can check for you. If no output, then buy replacement power block. Its a fact, power blocks fail infinitely more frequently than power plug ports which only fail due to forced improperly aligned plugging. If center pin no longer centered, trying to force the plug in only guarantees damage. On laptops, that usually requires total disassembly to gain access to the circuit board, unsolder and remove the defective part and solder in a replacement, then reassemble.

Everything works normally if watching cable but if I change input to DVD there is no sound now (recent problem). It seems to be the RCA audio inputs that aren't working (no sound from DVD or VCR). Tried...

The phono-sockets, aka RCA sockets have a female pin in the center.
Sometimes, these tube-shaped metal pins become stretched or oxidized, causing loss of contact.
Option 1:
The easiest quick-fix you can try is to briefly squirt the socket and cord-plug with Servisol or similar evaporating contact-cleaner, then repeatedly twist, push and pull the plug in and out to 'scrub' the potentially oxidized surface.
If that doesn't work, option 2 is possible if your sockets are open at the back of each socket, ie: not sealed / molded types.
Option 2:
Unplug power, remove cover, locate phono sockets.
If center pins can be seen from rear, try crimping slightly with needle-nosed pliers, or use a dart point or pen-knife to 'push' the pin-barrel slightly closed.
Testing:
Make a test-cord with plug removed, connect an AV audio source temporarily by hand to the suspect socket's connectors, observing polarity of center and screen.
If molded plugs are suspect, try levering pin-barrel more closed from front end if possible, or if totally kaput, renew sockets.

I had an RCA male pin break off inside my amplifier. I was trying to remove it, but in so doing I guess I pushed in in too far. The pin seems to have gone through the other side and fallen into the am

You need to open the case of the Amp and remove the core from the broken plug or it may touch other components inside and short them out. Unplug the Power First!

Broken pin stuck in S-Video port

1.) Find a needle 2.) On a hard surface, bend the very tip of the needle slightly so that it forms a tiny barb. 3.) heat the tip of the needle with a lighter until it glows red hot. 4.) stick the needle into the plastic core of the broken RCA pin 5.) wait a few seconds for it to cool 6.) pull the needle out, and the broken tip should follow!
