Screen goes black after a few seconds

It just started 2 days ago. We leave the computer on most of the time , but one day came home moved mouse to wake up screen as usual and after 2 seconds went black,. Made several attempts to turn on again and still went black after 2 seconds. Once in a while it will stay on except this last time has not. What should I do. Is it worth fixing, a quick fix myself or just go buy a new monitor?

Problems like these happen all the time with LCD monitors. Usually one of two things. Bad Capacitors or a bad backlight. To check this, take a flashlight and point at your monitor (usually at a high angle) and see if you can still see the desktop faintly. If so then its either the back light or capacitor. Backlights shouldnt need replaced too often as they have a extremely long lifespan. Capacitors are relatively cheap and easy to replace, all is required is a soldering iron and an inexpensive trip to a Radio Shack. Though this isnt your monitor, it is a very good tutorial on how to go about replacing the capacitors.http://www.wizardanswers.com/liquidvideorepair.html If it is the backlight, here is another tutorial for that :D http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/shorts/lcdfix.aspx

Why does my screen turn black after 10 seconds? ?

I think you can go into settings/display and change your preferences. You can change it so it never goes off, but I wouldn't recommend that. If leave it at home or something, it will drai your battery.

Why does screen go black after a few seconds

Hope this helps.... Your monitor has an inverter issue. You know it's an inverter problem when:
1. Your monitor starts normally and displays the startup/desktop screen for a while.
2. Then it suddenly goes off, leaving a blank (black) screen or a very dim display.

To fix this black screen problem, change the inverter board (based on your monitor brand).

My Imac crashes. 10.6.4, 2 GB ram, 2 GHz core duo. I've started with a clean install and disabled (one by one) all start up apps. Out of the clear blue, the screen will go black & I have to turn it...

When you say "screen goes black," does the computer power down, or is it still operating? Does the sleep light come on? Does it respond to the keyboard and mouse? (Example: press the power button momentarily, wait a few seconds for the "Do you really want to shut down" message to appear, even though you can't see it, then hit the return key to answer "OK," and see if it shuts down.) Does the screen go black or come out of black if you tap the computer?
While your computer is working, go to System Preferences / Desktop & Screen Saver, the Screen Saver tab, click Hot Corners, and set a corner of your screen to Put Display to Sleep. Then next time your screen goes black, mouse your way into that corner, pause a few seconds, then mouse back out and see if your screen returns.

I can see the correct screen only when i power on the screen, for 1 second

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

We leave our computer turned on at night but we turn off the monitor. The last two weeks when we have turned on our monitor in the morning it will show the desktop but when we move the mouse the monitor...

Yes. Do not turn the monitor off by its power switch, let the computer do the work for you. Alot of times when people use the power switch to turn off the monitor, the computer sees that all of a sudden the monitor has been disconnected from the pc. when that happens the pc sees it as a device beimg unplugged and removes that certain device from the pc's list of things that should be connected, and when you turn it back on the pc sees it again and starts loading drivers for that new part(monitor)

MY WIRELESS MOUSE IS NOT WORKING

If the mouse is only a week or so old, you can still return it or have it replaced under warranty if need be.
First, go into the device manager and uninstall the mouse, then disconnect the receiver unit ad reboot the computer. Then plus the receiver back in and the computer should reinstall the needed controls for it.
if the mouse is not moving at all, check the batteries, they can go dead sitting on shelves.
Last shot is to contact Belkin at 1 800 2BELKIN or email at this address: http://www.belkin.com/support/contact/email/?lid=en and complete the selection.

Monitor going black

HP's are known for bad capacitors in the power supply.
Replacing them is simple if you know how..not so simple if you don't.
Try your local TV repair centre. It should not cost alot to have the capacitors replaced.

Hope it helps =)
