Check the freewheeling capacitor, connected between its collector terminal to ground for loose solder, or damage. Repalce this capacitor, before replacing the horizontal output transistor. If this capacitor is open, the horizontal output transistor will blow off, at the time of switch-on itself. Normally, its value will be grater than 3900pF & lesser than 9800pF[2500V]

You're discussing about the width problem to picture. If yoke have a short in between its wingdings [even a single winding short], will cause the failure of horizontal output transistor. As per you report here, the set has a raster, but problem is with the picture width. There possibliliites for this fault are. 1. Lack of voltage from the SMPS power supply output. 2. Horizontal width capacitor. 3. Horizontal output capacitor. Check the output voltage from the SMPS section first, and confirm that it is OK.
Replace all the capacitors connected to the horizontal output section. Especially capacitors connected to the collector of the horizontal output transistor.
Check all the capacitors connected to horizontal output transistor. Especially one connected with its collector to ground. a high voltage [1.5Kv]. capacitor. Replace them. Check for any short inside the winding of the yoke. It is difficult to detect the winding short inside the yoke. Connect an other yoke in place, after pulling out the CRT base card out of the TV. This you can make sure about the condition of the deflection yoke.
Hello
You just replace the freewheeling capacitor, normally come up to a value of 5600pf 2000V or so, connected to the collector of the horizontal output transistor, fitted very close to the collector lead. Replace the yoke return capacitor, 0.33uf or so also. Usually samsung sets use no heatsink for the horizontal output transistor. You just put a small heatsink to it and check. If it doesn't overheat, you can remove it later.
You can suspect the deflection yoke also for shorted winding. To check this. pull out the CRT base board out of the neck of the picture tube, place it where it doesn't get short circuited, and unplug the deflection yoke connection from the main board, and switch on the set. See whether the transistor overheats now. If it doesn't overheat, suspect the deflection yoke for shorted turns of winding inside it. Till the transistor overheats, suspect the LOT. NOTE: Never switch on the set while unpluging the deflection yoke connection plug from the circuit board, without dismandling the CRT base board. CRT may get damaged, with a black burned spot inside the center of the screen. OK.
Hello
You just replace the capacitor fitted very near to the horizontal output transistor,[freewheeling capacitor], there may be one or two of them, whcih comes to a value of 3900pf to 6700pf 2000V or so. It is connected to the negative rail and the collector of the horizontal output transitor. If it gets opened, or its value gets reduced, this fault will occur. If so the transistor you replace will get shorted as you swich on the power to TV.
The second one is deflection yoke short. If so the transistor said above will overheat within seconds. Even a single winding inside the horizontal deflection yoke shors, it puts a tremendous load to flyback transformer, which in turn effects the transistor.
After replacing the above said capacitor, you do one thing to make sure about whether there is a short inside the yoke or not. It cannot be measured by normal methods. Fore that, unplug the base card from picture tube and place it somewhere near without getting any of its contacts to other parts inside your TV. This time only the EHT chord will be connected to picture tube. Unplug the horizontal yoke connection from main board. Switch on the tv, and wait for some time, say at about 10 seconds, and check whether the transistor gets overheated or not If it does overheats now also, the winding or EHT retifier diodes inside your flyback transformer has some trouble, and it should be replaced with same type and number. If it does not overheats now, the deflection yoke's winding have some short in it. Ok.
NB: Never connect the TV with base card is in postion while deflection yoke connection is isolated. keep it unpluged.
Hello
If horizontal output gets shorted always, something may be wrong with Line Output Transformer [LOT], or deflection yoke. If LOT windings inside is short, hrozontal output transistor will get overheated, and will be get shorted soon. If there is winding short in the Deflection yoke, even a sinlgle winding gets shorted, it puts a great load on LOT, which in turn effect horizontal output transistor. The third main reason for horizontal output transistor failure is due to an open or dry solder at the capacitor connected to its collector to negative It will be usually 2500pf to 3500pf, according to the TVs screen size. You just check these three and be sure about the fault.
Ok.
Look over around the FBT flyback transfomer coming from hori out put Transistor is a Blue capacitor 2K volt they will somtimes burn with a xmall hole on them if it is bad high voltage will not come up and stay on Call Mats for Part 1-800-628-1118 resolder all poor connections even where the Yoke plugins are which are near the FBT & hori output Transistor.
