Last evening, my DLP (bought in January 2006) made a loud snap/pop noise, and the picture went out. Turning the set on now results in the error lights coming on after about 10 seconds of no picture. I have not been able to contact anyone about this issue (weekend, no one's open), and want to know if this could be the lamp before I order one.
Hopefully its only the lamp. Inspect lamp for breakage. Lamp power supply ok??. Check any air vents (filters if any) before replacing. Lamp life is only a few thousand hours, easy to do in a year, 5-6hrs a day. Check your manual.

found out the problem. lamp RUPTURED, which was the big noise. blew it to hell lol. Got a factory lamp off ebay, now everything works and i'm just going to be paranoid for a few weeks.
it was the lamp. The cracking sound was something I had not heard of, since most pages discuss color fading before a lamp goes out, not just a BOOM. but a couple extra hours scouring the net I found it. nosamsguy is right on in his assessment, especially the hopefully part. I'm going to be paranoid for a few weeks of operation. thanks!
