Hello im having some problems with my old style ps2 (not slim). When I put in a silver backed game the game takes a minute or two, to start spinning and then it reads the game. But if I put in a blue back game it will not spin no matter how long I wait, at most I get a quarter turn.
i have taken it Completely apart, I put in an entirely different disk drive that I know works in my good ps2. I then recalibrated the laser. I took everything apart right down to the motherboard cleaned everything, put in new fan new switch (not that, that would help) checked all connections of the ribbons and I still get the exact same problem. works for silver backed games after couple minutes no other games.
Therefore I know the laser or motor are not the problem. I was thinking maybe fuse but which one and where?
What could the problem be and how do I check it or fix it?
Yah but for now I just want to know how to fix the spinning problem, I know the blue game works, the reason it wont read the blue disc has to do with the laser sensing the cd and sending the message to spin the disk.Yah but for now I just want to know how to fix the spinning problem, I know the blue game works, the reason it wont read the blue disc has to do with the laser sensing the cd and sending the message to spin the disk.

If it reads the silver ones it should read the other i would have said change the laser but as you have done this i could be that it has over heated and their is no way of curring this have you tried playing the blue ones on another ps2 if this is not the problem then their is nothing you can do other than sell yours for spares or buy a broken one you can get them off ebay cheap as you no your laser works usually the one people sell that dont work is the laser so you could put the laser into the one you buy then you should have no probs sorry this isnt nothing else you can do

Im going to assume the disk isnt dirty or damaged? It could be the lens, very common problem that the PS2 had. There are plenty of guides (video ones on websites like Youtube) that show you how to clean/fix it.
My PS2 slim wont spin a disc unless I put pressure on the top of it. As a temporary fix I place a 10 pound ******** on top of it while the PS2 is in the horizontal position.
make sure the game disc isnt dirty. also check the eye (game disc reader) to see if its dirty. if u cant see it (you probably wont b able to) then take it to a place like target or gamestop(GS). i reccomend GS.
