Be sure the pitch selection is correct. If it is set to PS when using a 10,12 or 15 pitch wheel it will select incorrect letters.

There are basically 2 cords one loks like a figure 8 with 2 wires the other is 5 sided and is very common on computers and printers and should be easy to find. The "8" cord is available from us for 9.95 + shipping

The return button doesn't work

Gently pry off the return key, make a small spitball 1/8" or so, push into the small square hole where the ret.key goes. If this doesn't work you will have to remove the key board and clean the key contacts.

My olympia mastertype 3 typewriter,does not print the key I am typing. Please give me an idea of what to check

On the L. side of the keyboard is the pitch slide switch be sure that it isn't in PS, if it isn't S'slide it up and down a few times they do get dirty.

With a startype 3, do you have to use the delay function ( where you type then return to get type to print)?

The mastertype 3 is the same machine as the nakajima ae710. Go to NADIST.COM, click on current models you will find a manual there, it will tell you how to get out of the delay print mode.
