When i choose format it askes , format yes or no, if i choose yes it then says card error, if i choose the no option it goes back to the maun set up screen again.the memory card that i am trying to put in is a 1 gig memory card, is that to big or do i have to get an upgrade from somewhere to allow the camera to take a larger memory card thanks sm1ffy

Hello Steve_smith,
You might have already tried these steps however just wanted to be sure... did you:

  1. Make sure that the memory card is not write protected?
  2. Did you try formatting the memory card through your computer (Formatting should be done with FAT and NOT FAT32)
Try these above two steps and let me know if that works... and if does then please do not forget to rate my solution :)

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

I have an olympus camedia D-390 and was told at Best Buy that they dont make the memory card I need anymore. So what memory card can I buy for my camera?

They are correct...Olympus no longer makes the xd picture card. You might be able to find one at amazon.com This is a 7 year old camera and only 2megapixels. If I were you, I would step up to a modern camera that uses SD/SDHC cards. You will be amazed at the results you will get.

I normally use a small 32mb memory card in the olympus D-390 but used an olympus fe-130 over the holidays with a 256mb memory card. I do not have the usb cord for the fe-130 so I put the 256mb card in the...

Many cameras will not read cards written on other, different cameras. There should be no problem taking the card to a store and having the pics printed or put on a disc. Or get a cord for the 390, or a card reader for your computer.

Memory card reads CARD ERROR when put in my D-390

If this is the old Olympus D-390 then the card may need to be reformatted, or the card may finally have gone bad.

If this is a newer camera, make sure it is not a new SDHC or UDMA type CF card. Those are not compatible with some older cameras.

Got new olympus memory card, keeps saying card error

Is the memory card the correct capacity? Is it too "big"? ie is it say a 8 gig and maybe your camera only supports 4 gig? I had that problem with my camera-I had bought a memory card which was too high in capacity for it. Check your user manual for the cards and capacity you can use.

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 256mb card without the letters M or H on it. The 1gb and 2gb cards are not compatible.
