Toshiba TP48C90 Convergence (replaced ICs, worked for 2 days)

I have a Toshiba TP48C90 (48'' rear) and the convergence chips went bad a month ago, I purchased the upgraded chips (STK392-040 instead of the 020) from bluestar-online.com and had a tv repair tech do all the solder work and touch up the entire circuit board (replaced the ICs, test the resistors, replace the pico fuses, touch up solder marks on the board). I placed the circuit board back in the TV, plugged it in, and it work good for two days and now the converence chips went bad again - any ideas? Should I just toss the set at this point?

Well, my thought is that there are a ton of knock off generic convergence IC's out there that usually hold up as long as yours did. Professionals like me will only use Sanyo original STK's. The counterfeit STK's out there are everywhere. Do some research on the web to locate Sanyo originals, they are out there.

Toshiba 55H70

It could be that this time the convergence module went. I have replaced many convergence ICs and don't believe I have ever had any go out within 6 months. That does not mean that they can't. Remove the leads from the convergence area to isolate the ICs as you said you were told. Now remove the digital convergence board which should be nearby and probably will be in a metal box for noise protection. If you can I would unsolder the convergence ICs to totally take them out of the circuit and just in case one or both shorted out. Once everything I talked about has be removed try the unit. If your problem is in the convergence only your set should work but have an ugly picture. Let me know what you find and we will go from there.

Hitachi 53uwx10ba turns on & off when off red flashing light/clic

Same problem. Replaced both convergence ICs about 5 months ago. Worked fince since then and just recently no sound, no video, blinking red on front panel and clicking sound. I suspect that the ICs went bad again and blew a resistor or two. I used cheap Chinese ICs instead of the Sanyo ones and thing this is why. I'll be looking at it again and post solution.

Convergence Problems

If you did not use heat sink compound then you probably have not hurt the new IC's yet but you should remove them and add the heat sink compound NOW. If the convergence IC's are bad then you will have access to the convergence menu but the adjustments will have no effect. The fact that you switched the IC's and got the same results shows that the IC's are good. If your red convergence is still way out when the new IC's are installed then the old IC probably burned out the low value resistor associated with the Red Vertical (RV) channel.
