Question about Canon PowerShot S230 / IXUS 179 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon powershot S230 Camera will not take picture now

Suddenly my flawless camera will not take pictures. I can snap a pictures and have the flash go off, but Display will not show picture or the CP flash card. The lens will open correctly and zooms. The Display works as well because all the option are available, flash, zoom, ect. I change battery and CF card, no help.
What other things can I try? Is there a reboot or reinstall default options?

same problem as this person, camera seems to do everything except take photos. My view screen only displays black/purple with streaks on camera/movie setting. I can bring up old images fine, just can't take/record any new pictures. I live in Florida and leave my camera in the car from time to time.... I've come across an ariticle that indicated high temp and humidity may effect computer chip, images displayed in that article are similar to what I see in my display. How or where do I send my camera for service

I am unable to take pictures. The camera comes on and when I take a picture, you can't see it on the screen. The lens and everything else works fine but I just can't take pictures. What's the problem?

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

I have had my camera for not even a year and it recently started having this problem. Whenever I take a picture, the object will look fine in the display, but when I take the picture it gets horizontal...

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the LCD display shows a normal picture when you are composing your shot, but that when you actually snap the shutter to record the shot, the resulting image has nasty lines across it?

That would indicate that the lens is fine, but that the image sensor itself or associated electronics have gone bad. If this is out of warranty, then you're likely out of luck.

I am unable to see what I am taking a picture of.

Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.
