I have the exact same problem with my yz125, just figured out that the entire case has to split in order to get a hold of the impeller wheel's backside nutjob - really bummed because id like to try and fix only the outside seal....

How to remove impeller from a.o. smith

the impeller is screwed on like a bottle cap. On a sq flange motor, it is harder to do. the armature spins when you try to remove the impeller. you can try to use needle nose vise grips to keep it from spinning by gripping the shaft from underneath (between pump and motor) then try unscrewing the impeller. If this does not work, You will have to remove the armature. their are 4 thru bolts that can be removed from the back of the motor. they are each about a foot long. WD40 the place where the connect to the pump housing or you may break the housing. When removed, you can tap the rear of the armature with a hammer and chisel. when it pops free, remove the armature from the motor. you now have in your hand, the pump still attached to the armature. you can place the armature in a vise, (make sure you do not damage it) then use channel lock pliers to unscrew the impeller. The impeller may still break. Or you can try and place a wedge in the pump housing to keep the impeller from moving and turn the armature. good luck, it is not an easy job.

How can I remove/separate the pump/impeller from the pump Housing?

No. Do not try to unscrew the impeller! If yours is a housing with motor attached just grab the part that has the O-ring and pull it straight out. Though you may need to kind of wiggle it as you pull. Do it over a sink, the liquid in the housing is gray water and can be dumped. The impeller shaft cannot be bent and impeller must be firmly attached to the shaft. If it is bent or loose on the shaft it will not pump properly. If it's solid and straight it should work. Put some petroleum jelly on the O-ring before reassembly. I also like to coat the threads of the filter cap befor screwing it into place.

Have a Sta-Rite 1.5 hp Model #HMSF 1F - trying to get it apart to change seal- has been leaking and losing prime- four bolts hold the motor on- tried to separate there first but will not pull apart (maybe...

Remove impeller housing cover. Insert screwdriver carefully into back of motor to keep the armature from turning then unscrew impeller clockwise or opposite the direction of operation. Replace seal on impeller and pump housing. Lube seal with graphite. Replace impeller and housing cover. Remove screwdriver from motor. You should be good to go.

Pump stopped working after 6months running can it be rebuilt

Has it exceeded the manufacturer's warranty? Don't try to compromise the water tight housing where the electro-magnet is located, as this could result in a nasty electric shock (or worse). Try cleaning the impeller and the impeller housing. Perhaps try a replacement impeller.

I hate to tell you this but we go by hrs. the motor has ran for if theres not a hr.meter on the jet-ski you well need to istemate on how many hrs.it has ran.If you think maybe the water impeller needs to be replace,it won't hurt.better to replace then be stuck.

The suction and water flow is greatly reduced

It's possible to wear out the impeller. To remove the impeller: after removing the motor and impeller from the housing, you remove the cover from the electric end. Carefully find a flat on the shaft that usually fits an open end wrench close to where the shaft goes into the motor. Not on the end of the shaft where the spring thing is. Hold the shaft with a wrench while turning the impeller, don't let the wrench break anything. Double check the threads on the new impeller to see if they are left-handed. The impeller should unscrew in the direction of the motor's rotation.
Put in a new seal while you're there.

Pump disassembly

I removed the impeller on my DW761UQB. The instructions were molded into the plastic pump housing. This is how I DID MINE: Remove motor mount screws. Remove the chopper screw (screw only goes into impeller, not motor shaft). Remove chopper and rotate/remove strainer. Place socket or wrench on impeller tip and place another wrench on rear of motor's plastic fan. Unscrew fan from impeller shaft ( threads are LEFT handed, turn CW). Once fan is 'backed off' of the impeller, CAREFULLY pry the motor/fan from pump housing (impeller is attached to motor shaft via splines). Don't crack the delicate plastic pump housing. Mine was stuck, but separated with moderate force. Now remove the impeller/seals from the pump housing. This worked for MY above mentioned model, I don't know what other models it applies to. I am not a pro.
