I took it back to Target and exchanged it for the same model in a new box. They actually suggested I come in and they'd swipe the instructions from another box---probably how I ended up with no instructions. I asked how far they would take that idea---cannibalizing boxes like dominoes. I appreciate you being there.

Go to Sears with the model # and they can order a manual and ship it to your home.

Can you replace the cord on a bissell powerforce helix 1700? If so how?

There is always a way to do this but the surprise is what you find when you get to the connection, of wire to appliance. Usually you have to remove screws to split the handle or wherever the wire goes in. Sometimes there is a nice panel with 4 screws. Behind that you will find the part that anchors the cord reinforcement grommet, and there will be a clamp that holds the cord firm. Behind that my guess is that you will see three crimped on connectors with a hole in the centre which is screwed to the terminal block.

If it is self winding, then you have the spring and coil to deal with.

I need to print how to assemble a bissell proheat shampoorer

First locate screw pack (you will need a Phillips screwdriver). 2 long Phillips screws with hex nuts, 2 short Phillips screws. Should be taped to under part of handle.

2, Put upper handle into lower handle.

3, feed the power cord through the tool caddy from the flat side. Place caddy to handle so the hex shaped holes on upper portion.

4. Place the hex nut in the hex shaped hole and insert long bolt through the front of the handle. Do the same on the other screw and tighten them snuggly. Be careful not to over tighten them.

5. Insert small screws into lower 2 holes through the back side of the lower hose rack. Turn until tightened.

6. Attach tool(s) (that would be a small brush or the pet brush attachment to end of hose and on the attachment holder on front of upper handle.

7. Wrap hose around large holder closest to handle and power cord is wrapped around outer holder with rotating clamp.

Hope that helped

Instruction to put it together

Bissell has the assembly instructions in the manual for the unit. Most Bissell manuals are available here: . The direct link to the manual for 1950 series Quick Steamer is .

I hope this helps. Out of the box, the assembly is very simple. Put the handle on the lower body and secure with a Philips screw. The water tanks lift off and then get placed back on the body of the unit. (Use care when the tanks are filled with water.) See the manual for adding the bare floor tool.

I am trying to replace the belt on my bissell. The directions state "remove the screw that holds the red retainer in place, set red retainer arm and screw aside. I see the red retainer but can not get...

Did you release the handle first before you flipped it over?

Have you removed the screw and it still won't come out, or is it stuck even after the screw is out?
Are you having trouble getting to it?

Please reply back with more info.

How do I change the belt on a Bissell Powerforce model 3522-1?

this is how you do it Lower handle and place vacuum on floor so you can see bottom of power head. Examine the power head to remember what it should look like when finished. Unscrew the four screws (Phillips screwdriver). Lift off cover. Lift out brush. Remove belt from brush and motor shaft. Place new belt around motor shaft, then around brush just prior to reinserting brush. Make sure the belt is placed correctly. Reinsert brush in slots. Rotate manually toward motor a few time to center the belt. Replace cover and screws. Tighten securely. Check cover to make sure it's properly secured.

Bissell 1970 quicksteamer water runs out of clean water tank

Try re-installing the handle. Remove the screw on the back of the machine and pull up on the handle. Once the handle is removed pull the trigger to make sure the plugger on the end of the handle moves up and down when the trigger is pulled. If the plunger is moving reinstall handle and test. If the plunger is not moving you may need a new handle.

Vaccuum Won't Stay On

Two ways to go about this:

Easy Way
1) Go to and order the replacement handle for about $25 bucks. Follow installation instructions and viola! You're up and running again.

More Complicated (you're on your own)
2) I'm no expect by any measure. I just tinkered around and here is what I got.
  • Remove the handle (If you remember when you purchased the vacuum, you had to install the upper handle by connecting it midway and tightening it with a Philips screw).
  • I shouldn't have to say disconnect the power, but yeah, that's probably a good idea too.
  • Remove all screws in the handle. Keep note of which screws came from what area, mine were different sizes.
  • Split the casing open and remove the red plastic cover. You will find a small switch underneath
  • I just fiddled around with the small switch until it worked again; you can also go online and buy a new switch Click here for the switch only
  • Once you have the switch working, or purchased and installed a new one, put the handle back together and install again to the vacuum. You may want to test the switch before completely installing the handle. You can do this by connecting it without tightening the Philips screw in the middle.
Hope that helps a little. I know my wife was disappointed until I got ours up and running again.

Do you mean the handle? If so, there are 2 screws and nuts holding the top part of the handle on, remove these then pull off the top part. Then on the back, near the bottom, are 2 holes that go in aways and there is a screw in each one, remove them and the two halves of the handle will come apart and you can get to the heater and lines.
