I have Altec Lansing 221, good sounding speakers but the connection cable from the speaker to computer shorts out. Any idea for a replacement cable? Thanks

I would disconnect the power before doing anything! then go to radio shack and buy a cable with the correct plug on it. Then i would cut off as much as possible of the old cable to the speaker, but leave enough room for splicing effectively. Then i would cut open the radio-shack cable and connect the wires of that cable to the remaining wires of the old cable still attached to the speaker. red is left, black is right, and the un-cased wire is negative. Try to figure out what is what on your old wire so that you can splice everything together accordingly. I hope this is not too confusing!! Good Luck!!

How can I splice Altec Lansing amplified speaker system 221 to ac power supply cord instead of the computer cord

Not a good idea. The receptacle that the computer cord plugs into has EMI filters in it. Bypassing it would cause an AC hum that you'd never be able to get rid of.

Altec lansing 221 computer speakers sound solution

Unfortunately it looks like Altec Lansing goofed up on this set and didn't provide a bass control knob. You will need to use some sort of software equalizer on your computer to turn the bass down.

Vs4121 altec lansing left speaker wire ripped.

Black should be ground and red is usually the actual audio cable. If you connect them wrong the should not short. They will just sound weird until you connect them properly.

Hope this Helps

Need driver for Altec Lansing 221 Operating Sys Vista

The independent site providing the software is not working anymore, and the 221 are not anymore in factory product page. I think the best thing to do is contacting directly Altec Lansing, and asking a replacement cd.

No drivers are required for speakers.
It may be a problem with your sound card.

How to repair atp3 altec lansing

Best bet would be to just strip the wire with a wire stripper or utility knife and twist the bare ends together to fix the connection. A little electrical tape around those wires and you should be almost good as new. Of course you might notice some difference in quality but I'm pretty sure the only way round that would be replacing the cable.

Try it out and let me know how it works out for you. If you know how to solder it might be a good idea to solder the connection as well.
