SOURCE: scanner wont scan

provided you turned the squelch know and it didnt help, i would trace back from the squelch control to the first and second transistor you come to and that should be the squelch circuit. if you know how to check them with an ohm meter you can find out which one it is, if not you can just replace them both for under 5 bucks.

My pro 2018 scanner wont pick anything up where i live could there be something wrong with the scanner or do i need a better antenna i live in holmes county ohio

First try picking up the NOAA Weather broadcasts. They're transmitted on seven frequencies (162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, 162.550) and at least one should be active in your area. To check reception, just press the WX key on your scanner. If you can pick up one or more of the frequencies, you'll know that the scanner is functioning properly. If not, your scanner is likely in need of repairs - a questionable move due to its age.

If the scanner is functioning (receiving the weather band), try a quick RESET. use a paperclip or pen point to press the recessed RESET button on the back of the scanner.

Make sure that you have programmed local active frequencies into the scanner. For a comprehensive database, and a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

After all of the above, if you are receiving weather but no local transmissions, I recommend that you try an external antenna.

If you need the manual for your scanner, you can download and print it, at no cost, here:

When I press Weather/Snooze the radio emitts a high pitch sound like a whistling. I have the radio set to voice, I have verified the channel 162.4750 for my area. I have a scanner tuned to that same...

Solution #1
Some counties have two frequency channels. check this URL address to see if you have another frequency channel for your area- http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/indexnw.htm. If you do, try the other frequency channel for your area.

Solution #2
You may be receiving a poor reception quality because of where the radio is located or the antenna's positioning. First play with the antenna until you get a better reception. If this doesn't help, try moving it to a location near a window or outside room. If this doesn't help, you may have to buy an external antenna from an electronics store and hook it up to your radio. If you still have your WR-100 Owner's Manual, they have a page in there for reception (page 12), and it lists in there their suggested weather radio antenna.

Solution #3
It may not be anything you've done at all. It could be the weather station's transmitter itself. May you should call your local NWS office and plea your case to them.

Need to do a master reset on pro 84 sanner but don't have manual

To RESET the PRO-84, turn the scanner OFF, then hold in the 2, 9 and HOLD keys and power the scanner ON. The word CLEAr will appear on the display to confirm the RESET.
While the manual for the PRO-84 has not been posted by Radio Shack, it is essentially a red PRO-83. You can download/print the 83 manual here:

BC 2488CLT SCANNER

You may have lost all the programming, so go to manual mode & verify that all your channels have frequencies programmed into them.Another possibility is that all the banks are locked out, you should see the numbers 1 to 10 at the top of the display; if you don't, press 'scan', then press each key until all missing number reappear.
