Some lights won't let you replace the bulb. You will probably have to replace the bulb and the casing. Take the entire casing to your nearest auto store and they should have what you need
It is a common practice that the ballast to repalce along with new bulb. There is no way to check the internal winding short of ballast. Repalce both at the same time. If ballast has any damage, it will surely ruin the bulb too.
plug in a monitor in the side of the laptop if it shows up then the lcd
is bad. Also try and reset the memory by pulling it out and then put
it back in if not in all the wall nothing will appear on the LCD.
Your "light engine has possibly gone down on you, did you replace just the bulb it's self or the complete bulb assembly? If you pulled out light assembly and replace just the bulb then repalce light assembly, if you repalced the whole light socket assembly and still have greenish color the you have a "light engine problem". Seek repair tech.
