SOURCE: Have heating pad model 809.

We have so many of these pads (now only) after the control part went to F1 and F2. My husband found the problem by taking the controler apart. Sadly what Sunbeam does is "pot" the wires. Meaning they put them into some plastic stuff to keep them from touching. But by doing this they leave the wire that makes the thing work to be the weak link that gets weakened even more by use and moving and adjusting the thing. It eventually breaks and he found there is no easy way to solder it back to the "potted" wires. It just leaves a short stub out of the pot. So if anyone knows how to purchase just the cord or fix it the heat pad would probably work just fine. So now we know what F1 and F2 actually means.

F1L error No heat in either oven.

An F1 code indicates a problem with the touch pad or membrane. Replace the touch pad or membrane. F1 can also indicate an issue with the oven's on-board watchdog system, which requires replacing the touch pad or clock assembly.

F1 Error on Maytag Electric Oven

Found something on the net that said it may be a heat sensor so I returned my new touch pad ($220) and put in my old one that was giving me the F1error. I bought a heat sensor ($55) and crossed my fingers. It WORKED! F1 was no longer flashing and the oven's back up and running.. so much for the error codes.. F1 = touch pad and F4 was supposed to be the sensor..

If you're fixing it yourself and think it may be the touch pad, I recommend going through SEARS. Even though the touch pad was an electrical part they still allowed me to return it hassle free and most companies wont accept returns if it wasn't installed by one of their service professionals. So I was more than happy to get the $220 back when it turned out to be the heat sensor. Only downfall is that I had to wait 2 weeks to get the part. Hope this helps anyone with the same error.
