No sound I bought aq Atari 2600 console on eBay and when I plug it in I get a picture of the game but no sound just static or white noise. It came with an aftermarket power supply with 9 volt output and an aftermarket video switch from Radio Shack.

I SPECIALIZE IN ATARI AND CAN NOT FIGURE WHAT COULD BE WRONG. I WOULD ONLY GUESS IT TO BE THE T.V OR ON THE WRONG CHANNEL. THERE IS A CHANNEL SWITCH ON THE BACK OF THE ATARI DECK.
IT COULD BE SOMETHING ELECTRONIC INSIDE THE DECK, AND I AM NO ELECTRICIAN. MY BEST GUESS WOULD BE TO FIND ANOTHER DECK. THE A/C ON 9 VOLT SHOULD WORK. THE FACT THAT YOU GET A PICTURE IS WHAT CONCERNS ME. AUDIO/VIDEO ARE ON THE SAME WIRE. IT MUST BE INTERNAL. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SYSTEM TO TEST WITH THOSE ADAPTERS, WOULD PROVE THEY ARE GOOD. OLD NES?

Hey just got an Atari of eBay and it works bit there a Stange popping noise and the picture jumps a bit and colors change. If you have any idea how I can fix this let me know. Thanx

Well the noise might be the ac adapter thats causing the problem then and clean the gamepacks out with qutips and rubbing alcohal. Always buy consoles from reptuable sellers because the stuff will generally work better.

Is this an NTSC compatible TV? The result you describe is what can happen if you try to use an NTSC Atari on a PAL TV. The color signals are different.

Bought an atari 2600 and an adaptor for my tv still no picture. also it turned my tv to blk and white. where should i start?

If you are using a digital tv you need the lastest up dated rf switch for atari2600
and plug it into a VCR or A DVD player and it will work that way but if its on a CRT tv style just use the rf switch then no special set ups on CRT style tvs.

it sounds like you may be having problems with the cable that connects to the tv, have you tried a new/different cable?

Atari 2600 Console Power Adapter

The Atari 2600 adapter has the following information on it:

Input: 120V AC 60Hz 12W

Output: 9V DC 500mA

Positive tip

Make sure you test the power supply before you use it. I have 2 original atari power supplies, and they are both putting out about 15V DC, which may be why my atari's aren't working anymore!

When i turn my atari 2600 on no games play?

The Atari 2600 was finicky even at the time (early 1980s). Just unplug it completely. Plug back in and power back on. Use the reset switch if need be. Good luck and have fun!

Atari 2600 junior problems

Press up on the power switch to reset the machine. Then try powering down. If that fails, accumulated dirt or general usage may be preventing the on/off slider from sliding fully to the off position. If you want to hurt your baby, take it apart - you will find the obstruction in the casing (could be as simple as a ball of lint). I wouldn't reccomend it however - the Atari 2600 was always touchy, and this is not as big of a deal as it might seem. Just unplug after every use.
