SOURCE: blood pressure measurements support
There are two positions for taking your blood pressure measurements: Sitting down - Place your elbow on a table. Using a flat object as support, position your wrist at heart level. Your blood pressure measurement will be too low if you hold your hand too high, or too high if you hold your hand too low. Lying down - Lie on your back. Rest your wrist on a support or cushion with the palm side facing up, position your wrist at heart level. On both of the positions you need to open and relax your hand with the palm facing up (closing your hand will cause inaccurate readings). Do not bend your wrist inward, as bending your wrist will cause inaccurate readings. If possible, empty your bladder before measuring your blood pressure, for a more accurate reading.

Measuring your own blood pressure is an important way of monitoring your health. High blood pressure is a major health problem, which can be treated effectively once detected. Measuring your blood pressure between doctor visits on a regular basis in the comfort of your home, and keeping a record of the measurements, will help you to monitor any significant changes in your blood pressure. You should also keep an accurate record of your blood pressure, to help your doctor diagnose and possibly prevent any health problems in the future.

Lucky! Wrist BP monitors never provide accurate consistent measurements.

If your HEM 704C fell hard, it is probably the pressure transducer that is faulty, broken. To my experience it is cheaper to buy a new one then to have it repaired by a technician
