SOURCE: Laptop won't turn on, blinking blue light

Jeremy,

It depends what failed on the motherboard. If the charging circuit is failed then you may indeed need a new mobo. The fact that it was working wouldn't be affected by the dead circuit as it only effects th laptops ability to recharge the battery or run from power.

Try talking to hp online tech support as they offer a $500 flat rate repair on many models. They can be access by going to www.hp.com and clicking the "contact us" link the the chat with live technician link.

SOURCE: hp compaq nx9110 runs only on battery when it is plugged to AC

It sounds like you have a faulty power jack, and possibly a dead battery as well. You should take it to a person you may know that can order and solder a new one in or take it to your local electronics repair shop. I do repairs like this on a daily basis for my computer business.

Dell 1555 Studio. When I try to power up the switch just flashes. Sure adaptor and battery Ok. What can I do?

What color(s) is (are) the blinking light? Is the blink a simple on/off or is there a pattern to the blinks (long/short)? Do any other lights come on and blink? (These could be on the keyboard or the battery health indicator LED.)

If the light that is blinking amber or orange indicates that the system has failed the Power On Self-Test (POST). If the blinking light is white, the system is in sleep mode. Try disconnecting the power adapter. Take out the battery and remove all external peripherals. Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to discharge the system's capacitors. Try to restart the machine with only the battery and AC adapter. Did the behavior change?

You can remove memory and the hard drive to check if those are causing a POST failure. Reinstall one memory stick at a time if you have a pair or more. If you can get to the Dell splash screen, try pressing F12 to launch the diagnostics. (You may have to press the key repeatedly starting from a cold boot.)

If the blinking light is alternating orange and white, then you could have a problem with the motherboard, battery or AC charging system. Since you believe that the battery and adapter are OK, then the problem would likely be the motherboard has been damaged. The damage could be at the connection for the charger or somewhere else.

I hope this helps.

No power battery flashes 4 orange

If it is orange or is blinking orange, the battery charge is low or expended. Remove the battery and re-install it. Plug in the AC adapter and connect it to an outlet. Turn on the computer.

When the battery status light blinks green and orange, the battery temperature is too hot for charging. Shut down the laptop, detach the AC adapter, and allow the laptop and battery to return to room temperature before attempting to charge the battery.

If the battery status light blinks orange rapidly, the battery itself may be defective.

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008. On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes. The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved. Battery power LED blinks The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition. LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help. Laptop won't turn on

The blinking orange battery light generally indicates that the battery isn't working properly, usually going out and not charging properly. In this case, since the adapter will not power the machine without the battery, and it should, I'm going to say that the adapter is going out and not getting the proper amount of power to the system. Try replacing the adapter. Be sure to replace it with a Dell replacement, the Targus brand universal adapters do not work well with Dell machines, and in most cases won't work at all.
