My camera was working fine, then all of a sudden after a picture was taken, I was unable to use any of the controls; they had all locked up. It turns on, I have removed battery/memory card, but nothing has fixed it. When in scene mode all the modes keep scrolling and stop temporarily when I push any button. And no, I do not know how to reset the camera.. I did also try homer's suggestion to move to the record setting, hold down, then turn on - didn't work. Anyone, can you please suggest something to fix this before I spend a ton of money on a repair? Another way to reset? Anything? Thanks!
Hey the same kind of problem happened to me last week and I was sorely pissed off. These cameras are not cheap to buy when they are new. Anyway I was looking up the number of the local service agent and turned my camera on to check something. Just by chance I found that if I touch the button on top for taking the picture and then simultaneously press the menu button I got access to my whole camera again! Now when I say touch I mean touch...lay your finger on the button do not press it even to the first stage, which is auto focus. It worked for me and if it works for you post your result to benefit anyone else who comes across this problem. Future.
I also thought my camera was dead.
I tried the way depicted in solution #1. It didn-t work.
I solved the problem by first selecting the scene mode and then I pushed different buttons (menu button and the 4 ones closed to it). It finally reacted.....)
It's now OK.
Anyone knows the putcome for this problem?

The same problem with my camera... anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.
Same damn thing is happening to me!
same thing!
Same problem with mine.....Any solution???
yep me too...
I'm having the same issue...90 days labor on the camera, so I don't think it's worth trying to repair!
Same problem here, happened about January 07 with the FX9, when it was about 10 months old. I was busy at the time and didn't get around to trying to sort it under warranty. Really bugged me as I loved the camera, very compact. I've looked all over numerous times for a firmware update as it seems to me the software onboard has gone haywire (the buttons do the wrong things) rather than a physical fault with the camera, but have had no luck finding one.
I ended up buying a Fuji A825 to replace it for my holidays, which is very good too (Fuji is my preferred make of camera), and they also put firmware updates out to fix an SDHC compatibility fault. Puts me off buying anything else from Panasonic with lack of after sales like this. Very disappointed.
Exactly the same problem. Panasonic not seeming to take responsibility
