Oil leaked from the head and inside the stand. Why? Will it need professional repair?

There is no oil in the mixer at all.

The only thing it can be is that some of the large volume of grease in the gearcase
is melting or liquifying and seeping out, possibly due to heat build up.

If it isn't very much, and there's no unusual gear noise, I wouldn't worry about it.

If it's a substantial amount, you can open up the gearcase quite easily.

This manual isn't for that exact mixer, but disassembly of the gearcase and for
the parts inside is the same.

My classic k45ss leaks oil which drips from the verticle shaft, and my wife says it is making a "funny noise". Maybe it is low on oil, but I turned it on its side to find the model number, and it leaked...

Firstly I would take the head apart to find out what has failed. The oil you see should be a thick grease. Normally it is thick enough not to leak in this way. Has it been repaired and the wrong grease used? If it is making a funny noise it could be that one of the gears has failed. Most parts are easily available. Have a look at the parts list at:

Kitchenaid Household stand mixer. Model no.

it is hard to tell you exactly what it could be, but a common problem is after a while the transmission gasket does deteriorate and will begin to leak oil.the gasket is part number4162324. the rattling noise inside your unit is most likely cause by a chipped gear inside, this can happen when the unit is put under heavy loads, such as dough. this problem could get worse as there may be fragments inside that will damage it more.hope this helps

Thanks

Leaking oil

Leaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.
