How do I change the time on the Brother 2820 fax?

This was taken directly from the Brother 2820 Manual:

Setting the Time

When the machine is not in use it will display the date and time. If you set up the Station ID the date and time displayed by your machine will be printed on every fax you send. If there is a power failure, you may have to reset the date and time. No other settings will be affected.

1 Press Menu/Set, 0, 2.
[2. Date/Time]
2 Enter the last two digits of the year.
Press Menu/Set.
3 Enter two digits for the month.
Press Menu/Set.
(For example, enter 09 for September,
or 10 for October.)
4 Enter two digits for the day.
Press Menu/Set.
(For example, enter 06 for 6th.)
5 Enter the time in 24-Hour format.
Press Menu/Set.
(For example, enter 15:25 for 3:25 P.M.)
6 Press Stop/Exit.
The LCD now shows the date and time
whenever the machine is idle in Fax
mode.
When the machine is in Sleep mode, the
LCD shows Sleep. (See Sleep Time on
page 2-8.)

Turning on Automatic Daylight Savings Time

You can set the machine to change automatically for Daylight Savings Time. It will reset itself forward one hour in the Spring and backward one hour in the Fall. Make sure you have set the correct date and time in the Date/Time setting.

1 Press Menu/Set, 1, 5.
[5. Auto Daylight]
2 Press Up Arrow or Down Arrow to select On (or Off).
Press Menu/Set.
3 Press Stop/Exit.

I can't get it out of sleep mode; can't find the "Menu Map" either

It may be that the board has a glitch. I usually solve that problem by disconnecting the tel line and power cord. Wait a few minutes, then re install the power cord, then the tel line cord. The machine then should go through a self check and the sleep mode will be disabled until the next inactivity period (5mins) During this time you can go through the set-up and disallow the sleep mode completely.

Sleep mode

Have you tried to unplug it, and leave it out for a few minutes, then repower, this clears the volitile memory.

Copier will not warm up. Turned off and restarted the fax but still won't print. I don't know what I pushed but is say sleep on the screen. We can not find the manuel.

on the bro 2820 you can disable the sleep mode by entering "menu/set", "1", "6", "2" then pressing "start" and "options" simultaneously. next, press "stop/exit" key once or twice to back out of the menu mode. you'll have to turn off machine, then back on for settings to take affect.

BROTHER FAX MACHINE 2800

Your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode function reduces power consumption while the machine is idle. You can adjust how long your Brother machine is idle (between 00 and 99 minutes) before Sleep Mode is initiated. Please note that the default setting is 00 minutes, and the timer automatically resets itself after the Brother machine receives a fax, receives data from your PC, or makes a copy. To adjust your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode setting, please follow these steps:

1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 7 (Sleep Mode).

2. Use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the fax machine is idle before Sleep Mode is initiated (00 to 99 minutes).

3. Press the MENU/SET key to confirm your choice.

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key to exit the menu.

NOTE: If you frequently print, copy, or fax, set the idle time long
enough to insure that you will not always have to wait for the Brother machine to warm up.

Able to receive fax but cant send

sleep mode is just a status of the machine when it is in idle mode.you cannot turn this off however you can delay the time before the unit goes into a sleep mode.it has nothing to do when you are sending out faxes.so here are a few things you need to check when sending a fax (1)dial tone by pressing hook/hold button (2) insert the doc into the adf, make sure it will change to "enter fax # and start,or copy press copy (3) dial the number (4) wait for fax tones of the receiving unit before you press start. now if you can hear an operator on the line, that has to be verified with your phone company since brother machine does not restrict incoming and outgoing faxes UNLESS that is restricted from your phone line.
