Always resetting the clock

Whenever the power is cut off and comes back on my computer restarts on it's own and resets the bios to default which is no problem but always having to setup the clock in F10 is tiring. I replaced the CMOS battery. Could I have bought a bad battery?

SOURCE: i've got a compaq presario 1245 laptop. On booting

hi
you will need to open your computer and look inside. if you are not sure take to a repair centre, the battery is on the motherboard, thats why you need to take really if you are going to be doing it. But i would advised to get a IT guy to do it for you. once its taken out you need to replace it with a new one.

SOURCE: hp compaq nx8220 - Administrator password cannot be reset

If this issue started with a motherboard error that appeared to be a faulty CMOS battery and then it started incorrectly detecting your memory and now is asking for a password it could be a faulty motherboard. If you are 110% you or anyone else has set a password on that laptop then I would say your motherboard needs to be replaced. It is a difficult process to reset admin passwords on most laptops due to a security chip that will prevent the trick of removing the battery from working. In all honestly if no one has set a password and the motherboard THINKS someone has then even if you reset the password you will still have issues. There is a small chance your CPU or RAM could be defective. But, again going back to it saying you have a password set that was never set. It just yells faulty motherboard unless someone has set a password without you knowing.

HOW TO REST MOTHERBOARD AFTER CHANGING BATTERY

If you changed the CMOS battery you in effect reset it. On boot up, go into the BIOS setup and check all settings. Even if you don't change any of the BIOS settings, save them as if you did and it will reboot. Should be OK then.

I have forgot my BIOS password

The only way to reset the bios password is to reset the bios itself. Depending on the make/model of your computer, there might be a little button on the back of the unit which you push with a paperclip. Turn the computer on and while the BIOS is booting, press the Pause'Break button on your keyboard. That should stop the BIOS boot...Or attempt to get into it so that it waits at the bios password screen, then press the button. It should reset the computer, then when it comes back up (you might need to hit it twice, then turn the power on), it will say something about the clock being wrong, enter the setup to fix it. Go ahead and enter the setup, reset the clock, then (if you need to) reset the password to something you'll remember.

If there's no button, then you'll have to reset the bios using a jumper on the motherboard. The jumper's location varies based on the make/model of your computer. If you respond with said make/model, I should be able to look up how to do it, and I can respond back with the specific instructions.

My amd athlon II x4 640 only showing a clock spead of 783mhz, it is rated for 3.01ghz, how do i fix this?

somebody or something has been playing with your over clocking settings and has effectivly underclocked your pc as with what you have said it does not sound like you know much about this kinda stuff so i wont guide you through a bios incase you do something and i get the blame lol....what i need you to do is either reset your cmos if you know how to or take your power cable out and see the little watch battery on *********** board remove that and wait 5 mins and put it back in this will reset your cmos and recover your bios settings back to the normal and give you the power back

or you can go into your bios all bioses are different i want you to go to the end roughly and go to restore to default or optimised settings as i say i cant see it so it can always be different but it will be default settings or optimised settings or similar but if youve got no idea atall just take the battery out of the motherboard and this will reset the bios to when it came out the factory dont worry it wont reset anything to do with your actuall operating sytem......either remove the battery to reset cmos or give me your motherboards name and model and i will give you instructions how to reset the bios but as i said the best way is take the battery out when the power is off

Ok i change the bios settings i do stupid stuff with by bios settings i also change some values after changing settings i restart my computer desktop. after i restart just black screen came my keyboard...

Probably what you have done is disabled the default video or changed the default video output. If you have both on-board video and an add-on video card, try moving the monitor cable to the other video connector (assuming the hardware for both is functional and you did not install a video card because the on-board video failed).

If you go to the support page on the motherboard manufacturer's website, you should be able to find the manual for your motherboard. In that manual the procedure to reset the BIOS will tell you how to find the jumpers on the motherboard used for that task. Most of the time you pull a jumper off a certain pair of pins and place it on a different pair of pins for ten seconds, then put the jumper back where it was. This is done with the computer turned off.

Another way to do to reset the BIOS to factory defaults is to remove the clock battery, wait about a minute, then put the clock battery back in. You will have to reset the time and date, but that is not usually difficult.

Blue bios password request. cannot get passed.

If you've already tried to get past the password 3 times and got it wrong each time, chances are you might have lost all the data on the hard drive.

Easiest way to get past the password is to take out the cmos battery and hold the start button down for at least 30 seconds (make sure battery is removed on a laptop and/or power is disconnected.)

When you restart the computer you'll get an error message. Just load defaults and it should be fine. You'll also need to reset the clock.

Dell Latitude D620 BIOS password help!!! I bought a Dell D620 and I noticed that some BIOS features are password protected. The previous owner said he doesn't know anything about it, so I'm not sure what...

Dell usually sets a default password as password or admin Try those first. If no luck go into the bios setup by continually tapping the exc key while the computer boots. If your licky you may be able to set yourself as administrator and give yourself admin rights. With admin rights you can do anything.

not too sure what you mean here.you can reset bios to default or can set bios to factory reset.to set default ...when you turn on pc ,message at bottom left hand screen indicates which key to press to enter setup(bios setup) note...its very brief;mines f 10 for instance.at startup press this key and select load default then select save settings and exit;then ur pc restarts with default settings.
To reset bios to factory requires disassembly.
you locate rtc and remove battery(looks like large watch battery)for 5 minutes then replace, reassemble and restart pc.you dont need to know what rtc means(real time clock)or what it looks like cos the battery is right next to it.
