Try updating the firmware and map data, some times something goes bad in the soft and it just needs a new fresh install

SOURCE: SHUTDOWN

My Garmin 660 after going thru the initial start up of "loading map" it will just SHUTDOWN. I have tried to clear the data in the diagnostic menu as recomendated by Garmin support to no avail. At the start, the trouble is it will just stay in the loading map stage. Then later it begin to shutdown.

SOURCE: Garmin zumo 550 map update problem

  1. Make a backup of your Zumo by copying all the file to your computer.
  2. Using your PC and MapSource select all the maps then send them to a SD memory card need 2Gig or bigger card.
  3. Try to rename this file to gmapprom.img and replace the same named file in your zumo. (I haven't tried this personally, so if it fails, just replace this with your backup and all will be as it was.)
  4. If this fails, you can use the SD memory card in your zumo and it will use this map instead, but it will take longer to boot your zumo.

SOURCE: map update notice screen

Resetting or trying to recalibrate the touchscreen does not work for this problem. Every time I try to reset or recalibrate, the Map Update Notice immediately pops up and I have not found a way to bypass this screen. I think this may be a glitch programmed by Garmin to force users to buy an upgrade after a couple of years.

I have purchased zumo 595lm and have put topo mini sd card loaded with topo maps it has wiped out the origanal maps can i reinstall the origalmaps to it

Download and install Garmin Express from Garmin. Plug your GPS into your computer. The software will identify your GPS and allow you to register it, as well as provide any current updates. Install any maps from this process on the device itself.

Need to know how i update the maps card for it

The latest version of Garmin Express provides the ability to install a map update directly to an SD card.
The SD card installation option will only appear when updating a compatible device that does not have sufficient internal memory for the largest allowable map region. When using the SD card installation option, critical files are loaded to the SD card so it must remain in the device after the update to ensure full functionality. For the largest size SD card a device can use, refer to: What is the largest size Secure Digital (SD) card that an automotive device can accept?
The SD card support during the map update will only function with up-to-date software. It may be necessary to update the device's software with Garmin Express prior to updating the maps. These devices do not support the SD card option:
  • Nissan 700
  • nuvi 295
  • nuvi 300 series
  • nuvi 500 series
  • nuvi 600 series
  • nuvi 800 series
  • nuvi 805 series
  • nuvi 5000
  • StreetPilot series
  • zumo 450
  • zumo 550
  • zumo 665
For devices that do not support using the SD card with the map update application, any maps that do not fit in the internal memory can be installed to the SD card manually, using these instructions:

When I turn my Garmin 550 on it says loading maps, then goes to the select a local: It's frozen their on United States i push OK and nothing happens can not change the Locale it's frozen I tried...

Hi tkfranks331,

Press the power key and hold it if the screen of your Zumo is frozen. Keep holding the power key while pressing the key that has a plus symbol ("+") on it. This will reset your device and unfreeze the screen. You can also try calibrating the screen by pressing the power key for one full minute.

If this does not work, please follow these steps.

1. Update the internal disk software. Download and install WebUpdater on the computer. Please visit this link to download the WebUpdater.

2. Open WebUpdater on the computer.

3. Connect the Zumo 550 to the computer with its USB cable.

4. WebUpdater will automatically search for updates.

5. Follow the prompts to download any pertinent updates for the Zumo 550.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Garmin Mapsource NT 2009 problem

your isp makes no difference and garmin should not tell you this. All the information you need should be on that dvd you bought. My suggestion is to disconnect from the Internet, uninstall the nt 2009, restart your computer, then reinstall the program without reconnecting to the Internet. This has worked for me in the past. My email address is [email protected]. If you need further help, I'd be happy to help you.

How do you load maps? and are these Garmin maps. I try to keep the Zumo original and use an SD card for extra maps. Did you try this yet? And if you are using SD cards, try a different brand/quality. I had some lockups with crappy budget cards. Kingston, Sandisk and some other A brands work fine!

Zumo 550

My Zumo would not start after a normal shutdown. I removed the battery and left it for a few minutes, reconnected battery and it started OK. I guess it locked up for some unknown reason.
