Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

PS3 freezes but sound still works

I first noticed this while playing Eternal Sonata and just assumed it was a game issue. I would boot up and play for about 5 minutes and in the middle of a fight or even just walking around, the screen would freeze even though the sound was still going in the background. The controller also stopped responding. I'd have to turn it off with the powerbutton in the front of the box.

But then yesterday I was watching a movie (DVD) and the same thing happened, the movie kept playing by sound, but the screen was frozen.

Btw, after I power it off and on again, it never happens again. It's always within 5-10 minutes of turning on after not having played for a full day.

When it happens, give it some time, like 5-10 min. the ps3 is most likely accessing the hard drive, and if it is, shutting down in the middle of it could currupt your hdd. if it doesnt work, even after 10 min, call sony tech support, but if it works fine afterwords, i dont see why it would be neccessary. unless it gets worse, i think you should just turn it on, turn it off after a few min, then back on, and then play.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Yeah, I have some old games I wish I could play but Windows 7 is giving me trouble. Sometimes, you can use the compatibility mode setting to play older games. The link below will go over how to run a game in compatiblity mode.

One additional option is to use Virtual PC which is from Microsoft.

Crashing issues

Hi, I'm assuming that you're running vista. It's not a heating issue, otherwise the machine would shut down dead in an instant. It could be a duff ram chip, which would give the problems you are seeing. Simply burn off a Ubuntu disk, and test your Ram. If it's not that, its a software issue, and may well be Windows Ram management playing up. This is a common problem in all windows OS's. Boot up off the windows disk (if you have it) and click the 'Repair' option. Alternatively if you have an onboard restore partition, you can click F8 on booting, and 'Repair this computer'.

If you have a wireless router and modem unplug both of them leave unplugged for about 5 minutes plug in modem first after its all the way booted up plug in the router that should work and also make sure all cords to modem and router are plugged in good.If you don't have a router just unplug the modem for 5 minutes and plug it back in and let it boot all the way up then see if you can get on.

I think the laser in the drive maybe bad. Take a can of air and blow it into the dvd drive. This will make sure dust or dirt isn't on the laser.

Then at that point try different cd's, games and dvd's and if nothing will play then at that point the laser is bad or you can replace the whole drive you can find a laser or a drive fairly cheap on ebay.

You will need to fix the organ. Simply find all the pieces (7 total), and place them in the organ. Putting the pipes back into the organ should be fairly straightforward.
