Top oven thermostat Stoves 800DF - fitting?

We are moving into a house and the top oven on a Stoves 800DF Dom appears faulty. Even when switched off the top oven keeps a very low temperature.

Stoves technical/parts were helpful and said I need a new thermostat but what I need to know is how to fit one of these.

I have not not looked too closely at the cooker ( not moved in yet) so can't see how to remove the front panel for access to the thermostat -any thoughts might be helpful.

You dont need to remove the front panel, you need to undo the two black screws on the side of the hob unit, remove the two plastic plugs they went through allowing you to raise the hob, and remove just the back off the cooker this provides you access to all the areas you need you can then follow where all the cables go oh yes nearly forgot the thermostat is held in place by two screws you simply pull the knob off and there they are. ive just done the fan oven one and it seemed fairly straight forward, but please do remember to turn off the power to the cooker first all the connections push on using spade connectors, oh yes for legal reasons this is for information only and i wont be held liable for injury or damage caused by unqualified people following this information to fix it themselves as i would always have to recommend that you use a competant person ie a person who is trained, experienced and has sufficient knowledge to do the job, but those that do want to fix it do so at their own risk and i hope all goes well with getting the problem fixed

Hi, we have had one of these ovens for 8 years (it was in the house we moved into). We had a new control fitted for the top oven (it took the repair company three tries to get the right part) and the problem didn't go away. To be honest, we can't stand this oven but are waiting until we replace the entire kitchen to replace it. The bottom oven is fine. The top oven is fierce and burns food all the time. Overall it's a ridiculous oven - I'd much prefer a sensibly-sized one that actually worked well! Rant over.

I am now on my third top oven thermostat for this rubish cooker from Stoves. Each time it costs an arm and a leg to have it replaced. Stoves support are very helpfull but charge absurd call out fees and take ages to turn up.
I complained to Stoves CEO pointing out that an oven which can come on all by itself at any time is dangerous, could cause a fire or worse gas explosion! Stoves are part of the huge Glen Dimplex group and have known about these faulty thermostats for at least ten years but have done nothing about it. Worse still they have not informed customers of the potential fire hazard with this substandard, faulty product. Avoid this brand like the plague.

Just moved, can not get stoves double oven to work light and fan comes on both ovens but no heat

On the main oven, does the circulating fan at the back of the oven start to rotate when you switch it on and does the fan oven neon illuminate as well.
For the top oven, the heating element is not very big so the oven takes a long time to warm up. Does the top oven neon illuminate when you switch this on as well?

Stoves 720 EF Electric Double Oven Model No 059040415 -when you turn the grill knob there is no light and it doesn't do anything at all - the grill is not working. However, the element must be working as...

First things first. The oven element is totally separate to the grill element. The clock has to have a time set for either the top or bottom oven to work, whereas the grill will work without the clock being set.
The control knob for the top oven is the ONLY control that will turn the top oven lights on, the grill does not turn the lights on. ( If you want to watch your toast, you have to turn the top oven switch on to the first setting as well as operating the grill control).
To prevent the grill being operated with the door shut, there is a micro-switch on the door hinge that allows the grill to operate ONLY when the door is down. The grill control also does not illuminate unless the door is down. There are two options on the grill control - right or left. One way is the inner element only and the other is both inner and outer ones.
So if you have done all that and it still doesn't work, then the micro-switch could be faulty.
Best of luck

How do I fit a new switch to the grill of my Soves electroc oven model no. 059040414 Type 720EF? Have you a manual?

First, a handbook is available, but I will need an email address to send it to you.
TURN THE POWER OFF.
To replace the switch, you have to take the whole oven out of its kitchen furniture housing and then take the top off. ) It is held in place by normal wood screwes) All the knobs on the front panel are pull off/push on and you have to remove them. Once you have the knobs off you have to remove the glass control knob panel. On the lower edge of it at either end you will see two cross head screws going upwards. Remove these. Now the only thing holding this in place are I think three lugs on the top of the glass panel that go up and in to the top of the cooker. With a bit of fiddling, the panel should now come off, leaving you free to access the switch for replacement.
I think you will find that the thermostat pipe will link into the top back of the top oven so this has to be very carefully replaced as well, which additionally may require the back of the oven to be unscrewed.
Best of luck!

Bottom oven is not working even though the top one is 720EF model

When you turn the bottom oven on, does the fan start to run in the oven? Do the oven lights come on? Does the main cooling fan switch on? Does the oven control knob illuminate? Does the thermostat neon illuminate?
As a guide, the power/control for the bottom oven is via the main switch on the front panel. Power then goes from the switch through the thermostat to the the oven/element/fan. The lights go direct from the switch.
I hope this helps.

Grill trips my electrics on Stoves 720EF

I had problems with tripping and it was a faulty RCB on the consumer unit. But it wasn't just one appliance causing the problem.
Have you isolated it to the top or bottom oven. If it is the main oven, then it could be anything associated with the operation of that component, i.e. the oven control knob, the oven thermostat, the element, the element fan, the overheat thermostat all could have insulation that is breaking down that could cause this problem.
Before you go and buy anything and if you have the time and patience and confident enough and know what you are doing, I would remove the oven from the cupboard, take off the top and back covers, note the wiring for the element, take the leads off the element and run the oven with the element disconnected and see what happens. That should prove whether it is the element or anything else.
BE CAREFUL.

How to replace the grill element in a Stoves 720EF double oven?

1) Isolate the unit by turning the power off at the main switch.
2) Remove appliance from housing unit.
a) When handling the appliance care should be taken to ensure the outer frame trim is not damaged.
b) The appliance is secured into the housing unit by 2 screws through the top corners of the front frame, open the doors and unscrew the 2 corner screws.
c) Grasp the bottom of the frame, pull forward and out onto a suitable surface.
3) Unscrew the top and rear panel securing screws and lift the panels clear.
4) From the rear of the appliance, pull off the 4 (top) grill element leads and the earth lead.
5) From inside the oven unscrew the 2 screws from the grill mounting plate.
The above is from the Handbook. I assume from point 5 the element is then free to be removed. reverse the procedure to fit the new element.
If you want a copy of the Handbook, then I will need an email address for you.

Stoves 720ef grill not working

The grills appear to be independant of each other. Does the oven still work and the oven light come on?

Depending on your answer it could be that the Top Oven Switch has gone faulty. The Grill Regulator and the Switch work together on the top oven. To get at both you will need to take the top of the oven off.

Oven heats up then cuts out, no light etc then comes back tolife after 5/10 mins.

Sounds like it could be the thermal cut out switch - I am having a similar problem. The switch is about £10 delivered from the Stoves spares dept. I can't work out how to open the top to change the switch though! Have you managed to solve the problem and can you add anything re opening the top?!

Stoves newhome

the residue is the grease being exhuasted from the oven.i wouldnt think you could vent it out unless you have an overhead hood.if its really bothersome look at a home depot/lowes for a heat/fire resistant filter and install it on the oven somehow.
