Please the reformulate the problem(?) with more care. Capital P is a different entity than p. Are you trying to factor out the polynomial (an algebra problem where the Greatest Common Factors have no meaning), or are you trying to find the GCF of certain positive integers (an arithmetic problem)?

-54k^2+3k

-54k^2+3k I assume that you want to factor this completely.
I do it one component at a time.
What is the biggest common factor of -54 and 3. I use a trick of adding the digits of the number. If 3 and/or 9 go into that number evenly, than 3 and/or 9, respectively go into the original number. In this case, 5+4 = 9 and since 3 goes into 9 evenly, 3 goes into 54 evenly. Since the factors of 3 are 3 and 1, this must be the greatest common factor of this component.
Onto the next component, what is the greatest common factor of k^2 and k. The answer is k, because k^2 doesn't go evenly into k.
Combining the two, the greatest common factor is 3k.

Next we have to divide 3k into each term.
3k(-18k+1) or -3k(18k-1)

Good luck,

Paul

What is least common factor

Normally, we look for the greatest common factor and the least common multiple.

To find the least common factor, we have to factor both numbers and see what the least common factor is. However, we know the one set of factors for every number is itself and one. For example, 56 and 49.

The factors of 56 are 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 14, 28 and 56.
The factors of 49 are 1, 7, 49.

What is the least common factor of both numbers? 1

So the least common factor of any two numbers is 1.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck,

Paul

How can I simplify a fraction after adding two fractions?

Factor both the numerator and denominator, and then divide both the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor.

For example, 1/3 + 1/6 = 2/6 + 1/6 = 3/6. We have to simplify 3/6. The factors of 3 are 3 and 1. The factors of 6 and 1, 2, 3, and 6. The greatest common factor is 3. Dividing the numerator and denominator by 3 results in 1/2.

Good luck.

What is the gcf of 84 and 42

The greatest common factor of 84 and 42 is 42. Of course, the term refers to the largest number which is evenly divisible into the givens. So, since 2 X 42 = 84 and 1 X 42 = 42, and since there can be no factor of any number which is greater than that number itself, the gcf of 84 and 42 must be 42. Good luck. Truly.

Highest common factor

Math is fun has a great article on how to find the GCF of two numbers:

http://www.mathsisfun.com/greatest-common-factor.html

To find the common factors, you have to list all factors of both numbers:
96: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 96
124: 1, 2, 4, 31, 62, 124

956.40 & 988.40 as a ratio

There is not much that can be done to figure out how to write 0.9676244435451234 as a fraction, except to literally use what the decimal portion of your number, the .9676244435451234, means.

Since there are 16 digits in 9676244435451234, the very last digit is the "10000000000000000th" decimal place.

So we can just say that .9676244435451234 is the same as 9676244435451234/10000000000000000.

We can reduce this fraction to lowest
terms by dividing both the numerator and denominator by -2.14748e+09.

Why divide by -2.14748e+09? -2.14748e+09 is the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD)
or Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the numbers 9.67624e+15 and 1e+16.
So, this fraction reduced to lowest terms isegif.cgi?mag=2&fg=12&bg=15&equ=+++4505852+%2c+%2d+%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2c+++%2d4656612%2c
