You have to check that the Detect wheel is not filled with dirt.
Open the case whre the electronic board is placed.
Look in the mecanism for the ribbon rewind and unwind.
Ther are wheels turning in a fork cell. Check that it is not filled with dirt or grease.

Wincor nixdorf 4915xe, i get "carrier error" on display, occasionally. what is this error pointing at?

Carrier error relates to ribbon. If ribbon is very loose or not properly installed it will give carrier error. Reseat the ribbon assembly and tighten the ribbon using knob available on top side.

Datacard CP40 Plus printer with an error. Put a new ribbon in it and it does give us a error message: Error: PR-01739 Ribbon Error Please Help!

Sounds like you are using an incompatible ribbon. Please post the configuration for the printer which is on the left side under the cover (white sticker) and your ribbon part number. If you are sure both are correct you may have a defective print ribbon or your printer will need service.

I have a Zebra 105 SL, I have the ribbon installed but the printer tells me that the ribbon is out. I've tried changing the ribbon and labels out but as soon as I power it back up and try printing again...

Calibrate the printer from the setup menu.

You'll (1) Load the label backing with the ribbon (2) remove the ribbon - just shove it to the right, out of the way of the ribbon sensor (3) reload the label and ribbon.

The printer will run a number of labels out.

Tec 572 printer gives "no ribbon" error with ribbon installed

You have to set the ribbon type to be "non-transmissive" for black transfer film.
To set the ribbon type, turn the printer off. Then press and hold the "feed" and "pause" buttons while turning on the power. The printer will now be in diagnostic mode - you can page through the menus until it says "ribbon type"
Pick the correct type and press the "pause" key to save the value. Then turn off the printer and turn it on again normally. The ribbon error goes away.

RIBBON ERRORS

Ribbon error message is displayed when the rotation of the ribbon spindle is not performed or not correctly detected. This can be due to various factors.
- The ribbon roll is not correctly fitted to the spindle.
- The sensors detecting the rotation are out of order or completetly filled with dust or grease.
In this case clean the sensors.
Another reason may be due to Direct thermal printing with a ribbon mounted.

Sony UP-DR150 4x6 "ribbon error"

The black spool of the ribbon has a built in chip, If that chip is damaged it renders the ribbon unuseable. Be very careful if you take out party used ribbons and re insert them later.

Error / Ribbon Jam/Broken

When you open and close the lid on this printer, it tries to realign the ribbon. If you are getting this error, I suggestion you Calibrate the print ribbon through the print driver printing preferences on the Calibrate tab.

Error code 754

It's very possible you are not installing the ribbon properly.
When loading a new ribbon on a Monarch printer, you must save the plastic ribbon core (it's butter yellow in color) from the previous roll of ribbon. The core is what the ribbon is wound up on.
Do not throw away this plastic core - you need it for the next roll of ribbon you load!
You have to move this now empty core from the back ribbon spindle and slide it on the front ribbon spindle. You then load the new ribbon on the back spindle and attach the ribbon end to the empty plastic ribbon core on the front spindle.
You CAN NOT just tape the ribbon to the front spindle. You must have an empty ribbon core to attach the new ribbon to. The printer will give a 754 error unless you have two plastic cores on the two spindles. It can also give a 754 error if the ribbon is not loaded properly, and also if you have a bad motherboard. There are no ribbon sensors, so that's never going to be a problem...
