How to adjust new belt on maytag washing

Our washer is more than 10 yrs old and its model number is MAV4057AWW--this model choice was not given but it suppose to be close to a MAV4500 model...
How to adjust new belt on maytag washing machine-agitator is not spinning? Although the round circular pulleys are moving -belt is moving but agitator is not.
We did have machine checked out by service person-all he could come up with is old belt...at this point the machine was spinning but no power. The clothes would stay very wet...so we changed the belt. But not correctly as now the agitator (sp?) is not spinning...
How do you adjust the belt to the ''correct'' tension so that agitator will spin...one more note, sometimes a ''coin cluncking sound'' is heard when machine is spinning...could this be a sign of worn bearings or gears?
THANK YOU

    First, thank you!

When we lifted the lid, it does agitate during the washing and rinse cycles but it does not spin during the spin cycle.

When we moved the big pulley in a clockwise direction the agitator moved counterclockwise. When the pulley was turned counter clockwise, the agitator moved clockwise-hard to move pulley as this seems to be the agitator mode. Then when going back and moving the pulley clockwise the agitator also moved clockwise? Not sure if this is how it is suppose to work-either way the belt does move the pulley which does seem to move the agitator.

Sounds like you have a bad transmission. can you lift the top up so you can see what it is doing when it is trying to spin. does it adgetate and spin at the same time? If yes you have a bad transmission. also if you get 2 people one looking inside of the drum and the other turning the big pulley in one direction it should turn the whole drum in the other the agetator should go back and forth. Tell me what happens thanks.

sounds like you possibly have a bad thrust bearing. You say that the break is not disengaging. sometimes the shaft of the transmission will move up and the thrust bearing cannot push the break up to disengage. the transmission is pretty much only there to wash. when it egages to spin the belt shifts direction pushing the thrust bearing up into the break to disengage to spin. try replaceing the thrust bearing or putting a thicker washer at the end of it. remove the white cap you will see an E clip under the e clip you will see a washer sometimes if you just put a little thicker washer on it this will help disengage the break. Or just replace it.it will come with 2 different size washer any way. never NEVER take the bolts out for the break you will seriously injure yourself. you need a special tool for this. STAY AWAY FROM THE BREAK!!!! That big pulley is the thrust bearing. try this and let me know. If the shaft of the transmission has lifted too far and you can't put a new washer on. then you need a new transmission.

What is blck powder under the motor of belt drive Maytag washer MAV4057AWW

The powder is belt wear. Not to worry though, they last a long time. There is always some wear on all belts as they slide into the channel on the pulley.

I have a Maytag MAV6300AWQ top load washer that is making a LOUD noise during ALL cycles. We lifted it up in front and looked underneath; the belts look okay; the large one had some slack in it; maybe...

If the belts are old they will allow the motor too much outward room, so that the motor shaft can rub against the bottom of the machine. Also make sure the motor rollers are not cracked, which they have a tendency to do.

My washer wont spin and it smells like it is burning it is only 3 yrs old

The burning you smell is probably the belt slipping. There is a belt which is attached to pulleys. The belt engages to spin the basin in the washer. When this belt slips the burning smell happens because the pulleys are spinning and the belt isn't. You will probably need to adjust the tension on the pulleys or get a new belt. This can happen from constantly overloading the washer or trying to get the washer to wash and extra large load while the water level is set at a smaller load.

Our LSR7233HQ0 washer is 10 yrs. old and the agitator stopped spinning. Any repair tips?

You may have broken the drive belt. Can you hear the motor spinning still? If yes, then it is definitely a broken drive belt.

1997 maytag front load washer has smell of burning rubber in the chamber.

You said, after we did a wash, strong smell of rubber inside the wash chamber once it was opened...do we get a repair estimate or should we consider replacement at this point...who to call? a maytag repair place or any appliance repair shop?

How old is the model?
It may be only the belt is worn and or slipping.
If you need to repair ,our site has some good repair companies that are our sponsors.
Off to the right of the screen in our site is a window that you can type your zip code into and they
will find you service near you home.

Here is a report I just read that may help you evaluate fixing or buying new!
Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old washer

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that washer is under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washers.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a washer you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.
