My Maytag Washer Model A606 just quit working. No unusual sounds before this happened. When I try another cycle and push the knob in nothing happens the water doesn't fill up - just "nothing". Any help will be greatly appreciated!
To access the duse simple remove 2 screws from atop the control panel and tip it forward. The small white microswitch can sometimes cause the fuse to blow.To access the duse simple remove 2 screws from atop the control panel and tip it forward. Have you taken the hoses off and checked to see if there is a screen in the hoses?............or on the machine itself its a longshot but usually there are little mesh screen filters either in the hoses or on the machine itself. If its knocking its either dry (no water) or the solenoid is going bad.
Cheap fix possibilty get a Y connector hose and you can mix your hot and cold water in there then just feed it through the hot water side. Or just hook your cold water hose up to the hot water side and just wash with cold water. If you are looking to just get it running and save money.
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France, Manual
You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make) washer manual' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount. During the process you will be asked for the actual model number! Not working
Have you checked that the power supply is OK? Check it with another item- a kettle for instance
When it was last used did anything unusual happen to point to what might be wrong. Has it done this before then cleared itself?
If the power is OK it is likely that you will have to call in an engineer, sorry ;-0(
Good luck,

its most likely ice build up, if this is a bottom freezer type. It could still be ice on the fan even if its a top freezer or side freezer. that's where I would look first.
If you have a problem I can certainly point you in the right direction. I have been working on Maytags since the late 60's. Even had to fix my own Maytag washer earlier this year :(
The MAYTAG Service manual (PN 56283), Maytag 2 belt washer - is no longer available - This part has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source for the part.
You have one of the work horses that was built before Whirlpool bought out Maytag.
IF the base and cabinet are in good shape it just might be worth keeping. Not that I am partial or anything but I still have a 1980 model washer and a 1973 (A606) model dryer that work fine both maytags. They are still serving me well.
There are few things that can cause it not to Spin
1. The motor is not reversing (motor itself a problem)
2. The timer contacts have failed internally.
3. The brake is locked under the large pulley on the bottom of the machine.
4. The radial bearing under the transmission has failed and locked up. (posible source of LOUD noise like a roar) I would like a better explanation of the loud noise.
I would honestly invest in the cost of a service call to get an on stie evaluation of repair costs.
On a machine that age expect the following recomendations for parts replacement by the repair tech.
.
1a. Radial bearing
2a. Drive belts (2)
3a. Tub bearing
4a. Motor mount rollers
Other possibilites
a. injector kit
b. tub fill hose
c. timer
If he looks at it and comes up the with same needed parts list 1a - 4a above and a recommendation for repair.... Fix it because there are very few machines out there today that will perfom and last like your washer.
ive fixed lots off washers over the years[15,000 service calls] and was careful while taking parts off if i wasn'tfulmilure with that model, but most timers and knobs have a key way so the knob can only go on one way.if thats not true for you, try this.turn the timer shaft till the washer is at the end of the wash cycle.[finished the load,it would be the final spin ,maybe five minutes long.when thats done the timer advances to off]now knowing that thats an off position set on your knob and then manuly turn it to the off position of the next cycle if it wont run you did it. if not you will have to go to the end of that cycle and remove knob and set to next notch in the knob, until you find the sweet spot.hope this helps God bless, tom
Probably a bad water valve!
If you can find it and take it out yourself and call a parts store and they have it remember to take the part with you and that it matches or the parts store salemans verifies that it's ok to use as a replacement!
the humming is the motor trying to turn, which means it works. since you did not mention any error messages, it could just be a belt that slipped off the pulley. have you taken it apart yet?
