My Dell monitor is in sleep mode. I cannot get to windows at all. I only get touch any key or move mouse to disable sleep mode. But, that does not work. Does anyone have any ideas?

My son loaded Bioshock and could not get it to work. I downloaded Direct X9.0c and tried updating his NVDIA 5300 video card with downloads from NVDIA for the 8300. I was wiping his LCD complaining how dirty it was...all of a sudden...bam...don't know what happened...It keeps trying to start then quickly go into sleep mode. We can only see the screen for a few seconds, the hourglass on the mouse is running and I still see the Bioshock application open?

    Help?

When "Monitor is going to sleep" appear, it is very disappointing because you can't on back the monitor in short time..Is it some kind of product defect? Really appreciate if anybody can settle this problem for us..

Just to check, do you have any power settings enabled? If you right click the desktop and go to properties, then screensaver, then power settings, look for hibernation and options to turn off the monitor after a certain amount of time. Maybe one of these settings got checked.

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2011

that's fine if you could see what the hell you were doing miss, if you can't see anything, then i guess you're not going to know what settings you're in.

This has a mechanical fix. The problem is that the electronic connector to the monitor is, in varying degrees, a loose fit. The fix that worked for me was to clip the end of a straight pin about 3/8" (same length as the single pin in the electric connector), drop this "shim" into the hole in the connector, and then press the connector firmly into the bottom of the monitor. My monitor had been going into sleep mode immediately, every time - now it stays on. Only caveat is to remember this fix if you ever have to disconnect.

Hello, I too had this problem. All it is ,is the sreen resolution. Turn on computer and keep tapping the F8 key to start computer in safe mode. once in safe mode go to programs, accessories, system tools and to system restore. Follow instructions on system restore by clicking next. On the calender click the blue date when you know the system last worked. Let the system retore. It will tell you whether it restored or not in the end. Then you will restart the computer as usual and not in safe mode....

I have a computer with 3 monitors. I had the same problem - ended up checking all the stings (win 7). Just by accident found out that the powered MINI display cable that connects the monitor to the computer went bad. Those little cables are expensive but could be even defective from the start. The monitor even turns on for a few seconds or sometimes for a few minutes and then shuts off. Replace the cable!!

I had same problem. Nothing is wrong with the monitor itself as it will work with another computer. The actual problem is configuration of the power options, but there is no way you get to solve it, except to reset to factory default with a setup disk.

SOURCE: HP vs 19 Flat Panel LCD Monitor will not turn on.

I too have an HP vs19 lcd monitor that the power stopped working around 18 months of use.
I have been searching trying to find a website that maybe someone had taken photos of their repairs on these vs19 lcd monitors.
Haven't found a site yet.

I would like to know before I attempt to open up the back of my monitor, the capacitors you are speaking of, are these soldering or do they just plug into the power board?

I'll be hitting the radio shack to see if I can get these capacitors.

Hpw2207h immediately goes into hibernation upon power up. How do I keep it on.

WHAT IS IT, MUST I guess ?
HP W2207h "monitor" 2006 built, 13 years old today.
does it fail on 2 PCs, or just one, what a simple easy test no>?
and IT has those junky CCFL lamps inside, that most are now dim dead this old. (it is hopeless to own this monitor this old) sorry
buy 2010 models and newer only with LED back lamps!!
ok, google tells me it is and HP monitor (old)
if the PC is dead or in sleep mode /hibernation or hybrid speed
all monitors do that, the monitor is just a slave of the PC
if the PC is dead the monitor goes to sleep on all modern PCs.
that way it doesnt burn up the screen, ok?

next up is the monitors OSD menu button on monitor front.
this old monitor has its own sleep timer inside the monitors
used for year 2001 PC that did not sleep then.
so was inside this silly old monitor so turn it off.
RTM here is your manual read page.32

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/71492/Hp-W1707.html?page=32&term=timer

if the monitor sleeps on 2 PCs turn off the timer
if dims out and a flash light shows, data the CCFL tubes are SHORT. (bad)
if the monitor is dead/dim/sleeping only on ONE PC then the PC is dead. a whole other topic and far more complex but we can do that,
here is question 1; of 20
do the fans blow air in the PC>? heard, felt seen?

Hotmcompaq 7020 monitor will often display the following when turned on... the 'title page' showing Compaq. Then a rectangle shows up that says "searching for analog signal" then few...

That is the OSD brain, inside said monitor
The On screen display , window.
push the menu key on said monitor, see that MENU now?
sure. that tells you the monitor is basically OK.
that message means the unstated PC, is not sending any video or sync signal (or its cable is bad or unplugged or loose)
or the funny timer is tripping.(out)

monitors evolved like 5 times from year 2000.
so first i carbon date yours, to see what you actually have.
FP7020 is not a TFT7020, got it.
i wish i could read the service tag on it so i can be accurate but i cant.
no matter both are now RETIRED. at HP (hp is compaq , a fact)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products
Zero support now... no books, no nutt'n!

the first monitors, had a timer inside, and a clock that had a auto sleep mode, inside it, yah. they did, and is a pain .

lacking the book , one cant know that can one.
seems its 2002 carbon dated. wow 15 years young , ouch

this is the year the VESA rules went in to effect.
long ago, and changed 4 more times. dig>?
found a 15 years old product sheet on this old display
shows"internal sleep timer" yup, I just knew it was there,....
first make sure its off. (this must be OFF)
if its on and the clock inside is set wrong, it will trip off , at odd times.

let me explain back in the dark ages of monitors.
they had many PC that had no sleep mode
so HP(old compaq) put a clock(time of day) and sleep timer in dislplay., (for US gov, energy STAR bs)
so what you do is first set the OSD clock to the correct time.
then in the same menu system turn off the magic clock.
magic is that only this old junk has this display

or
test the monitor on another pc to see if its monitor issues or not.

lets not say , the monitor , is ok, and its funny INANE sleep timer is shut off.

what next, well the PC is next.
but wait you never told what PC, ?
so it can be any of 10,000 different models , VGA cards, chips and OS.

endless possibles for 36 years of PC evolution.
hopeless on my end to speculate.
NOr did you say what OS you are running.+

All PCs shipped new have shipped with sleep turned on in windows
or is this running OS2 or LINUX.
in WINDOZ
click control panel
there click power settings
there, click custom settings and give it a name, and then pick
NO sleep, no Hibernate at any time.
then turn off screen savers if on. most are off default.

when the PC wants to sleep it stops the Sync lines on the VGA card
or GPU chip.
the monitor sees that and goes to sleep. all do.
if the card is bad, its bad.
if OS is corrupted reload it.
if the PC runs ok on other monitors you cable is bad.
if the cable is ok the and PC is ok, then the monitor is bad
simply move the monitor to other PC
simple move pC to other monitor, and 1/2 the possibles are now know... in 15 min work, about.

Why does my HP vs17 monitor screen keep going to blank black screen like it turned off but did'nt.....blue power button light is still on? Everything is running but no picture.....keeps happening everytime...

this old monitor has 2 issues.
1: it has CCFL tubes that love to burn out (backlamps)
most this old are long go, yell, dim.,blinking or DEAD.
2: push the menu button on front of mon. turn off power saver.

3: if the PC goes to sleep, or hibernete mode (parked)
then that is 100% normal
if you dont like feature then go to windows control panel
click power, ICON and turn off all monitor sleep /hibernate modes.

that assumes windows, no OS stated.

if the lamps are dead,
use flash light pointed to sceen, see data. ? bingo for bad CCFT tubes.
as seen here

HP w1907 LCD Monitor goes to sleep by displaying a "monitor is going to sleep"error after turning on the computer and doesnt display anything. It works intermittently, in that, if the computer has been...

so if you test the monitor on a known good PC it does what?
fails, then its the monitor
works then its the failing PC

all old HP monitors pre 2010 many had a sleep timer
so push the menu key on the monitor
then look for sleep timer and turn it off,
the monitor defaults to that mode, so dont push reset monitor or bam back to sleep mode it goes. so turn it off again.
all this is in the manual, lost yours, wana read it first?

read page 4.7 see that? (osd +advanced +) power saver OFF

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/418165/Hp-W1907-19-Lcd-Monitor.html?page=25#manual

if that fails to fix it (tested on 2 PC ) the PC1 is bad.
that be a whole other WALL OF TEXt, ask.

HP 2338H Monitor Goes into Sleep mode and I have to power comput

if the monitor fails on 2 PC, the monitor is bad ! ok, do that...
then
push the monitor menu buttton, connected to a running PC.
if the OSD is dead, , (on screen display , menu button front of monitor)
that means the monitor is dead, CCFL tubes are bad.
cold cathod florescient laml tubes all day this old.
the menu button can be in lock mode, hold the button for 10 seconds, and it unlocks
then go in the OSD screens if they work,. and turn off the sleep timer.
this timer is marked in the OSD as power saver,. turn it off.
it is a time clocked feature, and a pain to use on modern PC.
your PC does sleep modes today and never us this timer, inside monitor (default is on, turn it off)

No DVi input, then computer goes to sleep

Hi publicworker,

I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.

How to do that:
  • right mouse click on the desktop
  • select graphic options
  • output to
  • extended desktop
Maybe some changings/modification will help you too.

Monitor stays asleep

Check in the BIOS and see what your monitor settings are.
Did you change the sleep mode or power off mode? What do you do to make it come back on? Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Try it on another machine and see what it does. Also try another video card because the video card could be going bad.
