PS2 slim power goes off when shut

Have you tried cleaning the lens? using a DVD disc cleaner or a cotton bud and some methylated spirits.
If that doesnt fix it the lens is knackered, common fault on PS2 consoles.

maybe u play it to much or some thing is wrong with the plug or u can open the ps2 check wear the plug goes in

same problem here. keep trying to reset it, it should come around soon.

I had the same issue (since Christmas).  Today it was rainy, so I spent some time with kids and here is what worked for me
Here's what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2's. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc.


1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it.
2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
3) Highlight the 'Console' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
4) Highlight the 'Diagnostics' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'ON'.
5) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
6) Highlight the 'PlaystationDrive' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
7) Highlight the 'Disc Speed' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'FAST'.
8) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
9) Turn off your PS2.


10) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing.

11) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven't had to re-do the settings at all.

your lense is more than likely defragmented jacob and you should never take any system apart okay so what you wanna do is if your warrenty is still in effect dont tell sony you took it apart just send it in for a refurbisment if it isnt you need to look around online for a ps2 slim lense okay

This happens often when your lens are in poor condition:

these are some actions that trigger this problem

1. If you played your PS2 without any rest for more than 3-4 hours

2. You didn't clean the lens at least twice a year (excluding PS2 slim)

3. Your PS2 fell on the ground

and these are some solutions:

1. Check your lens, it might be dirty or broken

2. Check the parts of your PS2, some parts might be damaged

3. Try a clean disc

Does this problem apply to ALL of your discs? If not, then first, when putting your discs in the tray, be sure that ALL of the three PINS on the tray that holds the disc are locked in place, meaning they should all be sticking out on the hole of your DVD. This happened to me a lot...heheh...then, if this problem apply to all of your disc, There probably is a problem with the lens of your PS2...either slim or the fat one...then the only solution is to have your lens replaced...sorry, but i don't know how much it cost now...

ps2 can play dvds but xbox needs a store bought xbox dvd remote to play dvds
the ps2 slim and the ps2 normal have a lot in common so thwere is not much difference, but the slim has a fliptop lid and the fat ps2 has a open and shut slide drive.If I were you I would get the slim because it is the only one you can get brand new nowadays. The xbox may have halo 1 and 2 but sometimes there are freezes on certain xboxes.

u might have to clean the laser with a q-tip and alchole is not that u will have to ajust the laser till it reads dvd and cds
