Question about Dell Inspiron 2200 Notebook

1 Answer

AC Adapter My Inspiron 2200 is not acknowledging that the ac adapter is plugged in. The original one was plugged in and the message "please plug in your pc" came up...then it hibernated. I could not get it to turn on again. I bought a new one, and it seems to only charge the battery when the computer is hibernating; when I turn it on it still does not acknowledge the adapter and drains the battery. I've tried wiggling the cord around, but that doesn't help. Any idea what could be wrong? I spent $50 on this new power cord....great :(

I have the same problem. I have to pull the cord to the left and pray no one touches the laptop. I was told I have to have it repaired by Dell themselves. It's something with the mother board which when the laptop was under warrenty, it was replaced twice!!

Dell inspiron 2200 will not power on

Check your AC adapter for an LED showing it is getting power from the wall. Make sure you have no external devices connected, then try booting with just the AC adapter, next, just the battery. If still nothing, then your motherboard is probably bad.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

Computer doesn't accept power

check the metal post inside the power jack connection. very carifully try to wiggle the metal post and see if it moves or if its there at all. if the post wiggles, it is probably broken and needs to be re-soldered...only someone who knows how to do that should as you could damage the board trying yourself.
also try plugging it in without the battery.
do any lights come on at all when its plugged in or power buttons are pressed?

Dell Inspiron Battery problem

Try this trick. Remove the battery from the laptop and make sure the ac adapter is not plugged in also. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Place the battery back in and see if it powers on. If not let me know.

Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 2200 Charger Malfunction

Try to turn off the computer and remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. Turn on the computer with just the charger plugged in. If it doesnt turn on. you may have a bad power port.

If it has no power/charging issue since that happened except that the indicator light doesnt turn on when you plug in the charger, you may just need a bios update. Click here. That's the bios update for the inspiron 2200 from dell's website. You should have at least 30% charge on the battery and the ac adapter should be plugged in so you can run it. The computer will restart and will come back normally after this. I'd suggest that you backup your files before running this.
