The iPod won't register that my headphones are plugged in and won't stop playing the music on its built in speaker so when I plug the head phones in you can still hear the music playing. What do I do?!?

Restart your ipod by holding the home and power button at the same time, this will restart it and should fix it.

Try another set of earphones, if those don't work either, then get it replaced.
Replacing this piece is not that hard. Opening up the iPod's casing is the tricky part. It can be very easy or very difficult if you don't get it right the first few times. Just make sure you get the correct open tools for it so you don't scratch up the iPod while opening it.
