Question about Samsung SGH-E900 Cellular Phone

1 Answer

I have recently purchased the above phone new and it is conected to the T-mobile network. The phone continuously goes searching for a network. I have set the phone to Manual Network Selection but as soon as the signal is poor it returns to Automatic Network Selection, it is driving me mad, please can you help.

When I turn the phone on it keeps searching for network and rebooting over and over again. Occasionally, if the phone has been off for days and the battery drained, when I start it up it's okay for a bit (up to a day or two) but then just goes into the searching/rebooting cycle again

Internet connection

Hi Joanne.

Your Virgin Home network I am guessing is wireless???

This may be a big problem.

The KP500 Cookie is not a WiFi enabled handset so connecting to ANY Wireless internet connection is NOT going to happen. Sorry!

When you search manually for a Network what you are actually doing is searching for another mobile phone network.

The mobile phone network is the only way the cookie can connect to the internet.

Does't connect to network - search Network

It sounds like you may have a poor 3G reception in your area. Even though other O2 phones are working better they may be running on the 2G masts in your area.
Try in setting/network menu turning off 3G reception, that way the device will only look for 2G masts. Your handset will give priority to 3G masts where available and sometimes will hold onto the weakest signal making poor call quality, and or dropping connection.
Advantages to using 2G only = better standby and talk time / better reception where 3G is poor.
Disadvantages = Slower web browsing / no video calls.

WEP / WPA will only apply if you are connecting using WI FI and have nothing to do with your mobile network connection.
Hope that helps?

Emergency calls only

hello sir,
this emergency calls only is seen only when ur SIM is not activated or ur cell phone dosent catches the signal. Well it shows the signal full but thats the FAKE signal.
If ur SIM is activated try the MOBILE NETWORKS in the SETTINGS option  >  Connectivity
U will search for new networks and u will find ur NETWORK Operator

If ur SIM is invalid u wil continue receving the same message  "emergency calls only"

Unlocked Pearl no locking onto network

AT&T devices are integrated software and settings necessary to operate on the network. If GPRS attach is not an issue for you then this is likely the problem.
You could go through your settings, such as network provider, connectivity, etc with settings that come default with AT&T devices, however, AT&T will not support an unlocked phone regardless of previous provider. Find someone with same phone if possible and AT&T as provider, try to copy settings, but typically there are some that are view only and uneditable. You could also go to and download the latest version of handheld software onto the device.
If that doesn't work and a new sim doesn't alleviate problem, you are likely out of luck. No one really supports an unlocked phone.
