You need a serpentine belt tool, you can rent one at the parts place and while you are there get the new idler. You will also need a wrench to fit the bolt. Remove the belt then take the bolt out of the idler and install the new one, you can use some low strength loctite purple to keep this from happening again. Reinstall the belt, return the tool and get your money back for the rental.

If you have a book picture your are screwed. You do have a tensioner but it is between air con and powersteering pullys. In front from under you can put 15mm wrenchopend with a nother for leverage pull center bolt down to release tension. simple.

SOURCE: 2008 Ford Fusion Wing Mirror Replacement

I checked Ford Focus mirror replacement and it seems to be the same. This is for the manual, unheated mirror.

Remove the mirror cover inside the door - slide a screwdriver behind the cover and pry loose carefully.

Remove the single 10mm bolt and the mirror comes free.
NB. Do not drop the bolt into the door.

How to tighten the belt on 2008 ford fusion

Hi Brian:
Serpentine belt?
Tension comes from spring loaded idler pulley.
Sometimes they get stiff on the hinge mechanism.
I'd use my flex bar to slack it, then remove the belt, move the idler back and forth a few times to loosen it up. and then re-install the belt.

I have a 2008 Kia Sorento LX 3.3. where is the adjuster bolt for the idler pulley? Trying to change serpentine belt and idler pulley.

The idler pulley deflects out of the way using a special wrench, the pulley is held against the belt only by a preset spring tension mechanism. You put the wrench on the bolt or in the square drive hole and deflect the pulley away from the belt, it must be manually held there to put the new belt on and then released to tension the new belt.

How replace and put back on idler pulley n serpintine belt

Hi there,

Use socket wrench to turn serpentine belt counterclockwise at tensioner to get some slack.
Pull serpentine belt off topside of idler pulley and put it underneath idler pulley, and actually try to tuck it up inbetween engine block and idler pulley. Then close your engine hood.

Then crank engine a few seconds and the belt should flip that idler pulley right off.
Dont even need to start the engine. You can tell when the job is done by hearing a big thud, and seeing the dent pushing out on your engine hood. Turn your key off immediately after hearing the thud, or if the engine starts. You just want to crank it a second or two. Easier than using a puller.

If the idler pulley is really shot to bits, it may come off in pieces; if not, there should be one center bolt and a largish washer. Don't lose the washer or bolt since your new part does not come with those (mine didn't!). Replace everything in the same order. Make sure you follow the torque specifications for the bolt when replacing it.

For the dent on your hood, just whack it back down with a hammer, then spray it with white Rust-Oleum spray paint, or the color that matches your car color.

Hope these help.

What is the proper way to replace a belt idler in FORD ESCORT ZX2

Take the tension off the belt using a long handeled breaker and the appropriate size socket on the center bolt of the tensioner pulley. It will usually move to the left, Use great care in placing the socket so you are positive that it cannot slip. I've been bitten before and it hurts greatly. While the belt is relaxed, which takes some pulling, slide it off any of the top pulleys, just one. Your idler pulley is held in place with one bolt through the center. unbolt it and place the new one in place and tighten it up. After this put your elbow grease to work again on the tensioner and slip the belt back over the pulley you took it from. Before you let the tensioner release make sure the belt is sitting properly in ALL of the pulleys. Actually, when you remove the belt originally it's a good idea to hold it up and away by hooking it anywhere with an old coathanger or a resonabe facimile. Thank, Dana
