Nintendo ds damaged ribbon cable

Hi, i managed to damage the ribbon cable which is attached to the bottom screen and the board. It looks like the ribbon and the bottom screen is one piece.
Do i need to buy the bottom screen to fix the lack of colour and poor contrast i am experiencing on the bottom screen?
The touch pad seems to be working well.

thank you

Chris

You can't buy a ribbon for the bottom screen. (You can buy the ribbon that connects the motherboard to the daughter board which connects the top screen.). A new screen is the answer but be very careful when taking off the touch screen. Gently pry the two screens apart or else you will need a new touch screen. Also make a note of how the touch screen is attached to the LCD screen, as the touch screen is not the same size as the LCD screen. How have you damaged the ribbon? Could it be that it may not be pushed tight and straight into the connector? BTW the top and bottom LCD screens are the same. Some unscrupulous dealers have been charging differing amounts for 'Top' or 'Bottom' screens!

Here is a detailed step-by-step video of how to take apart and put back together. It focuses more on fixing the hinge I think but it is worth the view!

I have the same problem with one of my kids DS lites - the really small black touchscreen connector broke off. You can still see both screen but the "touch" function doesn't...just wondering if it's possible to replace just the ribbon cable...I don't want to break the screen trying to pry it.

I had the same problem but it tuned out that the ribbon wasn't fully in the socket. you should try to put it more in.

I did the same thing you can buy a new ribbon cable on ebay cheaply enough but be warned they are tricky to replace and there are no good guides on the net.be careful when you are removing cable that you have released the little black clip these can also break easily.when you are taking ds apart take photos as you go as you can easily forget how to put it back together .also watch out for ripping new cable as you have to twist it around inside hinge which is what i did.i was only replacing case and managed to damage cable, fixed it now though .found china webstore on ebay they stock them

forgot to say the cable and screen are not one piece carefully peal off backing and you will see where cable connects into screen when putting it back i think i used some masking tape as glue or ordinary selotape would obviously damage cable

Ds lite comes on the top screen flashes then it switches off

It could also be a bad top screen due to a bad ribbon cable. If your hinge is cracked it could cause damage to the ribbon cable that passes through it, this shorts out the top screen and will shut the DS down

When I turn the power switch on, both the screens just stay blank and nothing happens!

Hello,

There are a couple of reasons you could be experiencing this problem. I will list them below along with options.

  • Liquid Damage
  • Wireless Wifi Board has gone bad
  • Wireless Wifi Board is no longer attached
  • Power Management Chip is no longer good
1.) Liquid Damage - If you're experiencing liquid damage this system would have to be repaired with possibly a board switch. But, usually when you have liquid damage you will see blinking screens before the Nintendo DS goes dead.

2.) Bad Wireless Wifi Board / Un-attached - Your wireless Wifi board is one of the pieces on the board that keeps your system functioning. If you've recently dropped your system, these small boards are famous for popping off. Good news is, they're easily re-attachable. (Seriously, a 5 year old could do it) Bad news is, you would have to open your Nintendo DS and this causes frustration. Youtube HowTo video

3.) Bad Power Management Chip - This chip controls video/sound and many more functions. If this has gone bad, you would need this replaced or have a new board.

Options 1 and 3 would be best to seek a repair shop. Option 2, you could do yourself to find out if thats the problem.

I wish you luck and Hope I helped!

-great

I replaced the bottom screen in a friends Nintendo DS lite, because she broke it. Then the DS would only turn on for a second and then turn off, the Charger would not charge. After searching on the...

there are 2 fuses you obviously didnt insulate the bottom screen so it doesnt short out on the circuit board look at the one you took out and look at the one you put in difference is one has a backing insulation
did you blob them with solder (definatly not a good thing to do) if you did everything correctly and im wrong try this
the second thing is which every one does they never push the ribbon cable fully home (top and bottom screen) needs to seat all the way in really all the way if this helps give us a tick so to help others good luck

Flashing bottom screen (Nintendo DS Lite)

You need to check the top screen ribbon is fully inserted into to place on the board. A green light and flash of the screen within a second means ribbon not connecting right

Faulty game console

Maybe the ribbon cable was damaged. the ribbon cable is a flat wire thing used to connect the top screen and bottom screen. you can buy a ribbon cable on ebay for a cheap price.

if that wasn't the problem, maybe the bottom lcd screen is dead. you'll need to replace that.

DS Powering On

Hi, if the bottom screen briefly comes on with a white screen. There is a issue with the top screen, it is either the top screen itself or if there is damage to the hinge it will more than likely be the cheaper option the ribbon cable that threads though the hinge to the top screens PCB board.

Nintendo DS bottom display screen

Hi I have a problem with my bottom screen as well. I was replacing the case as the hinge was broken. When i was putting it back together i noticed a slight tear in the ribbon cable which is attached to the board and the bottom screen.
When I turned it on I found I had poor colour and contrast in the bottom screen however the top screen was fine.
Where this ribbon cable is attached to the board there is two small cables attached to the board beneath it, maybe one of these has come away and needs repositioning or your bottom screen needs replacing.Try this site for diy tipshttp://site.powergamingparts.com
