Ink Cartridges are full:
- Magenta tank shows light off - pressed properly/ light goes off
- Alarm light is on, Turn Power on & Off, Alarm light stays on - Printer doesn't print.
Any ideas how to fix it, before I buy ink cartridges?
I added my post today with the same problem, and thought I'd share what I since learned. Apparently this "Alarm light/U150" is common with several Canon models. The U150 indicates a faulty electronic chip (on the ink cartridge). Though I tried cleaning the sensor with isopropyl alcohol, and also tried removing all the cartridges, unplugging the printer for 45 seconds, then reconnecting, etc. as I had read might help, I still had the same frustrating problem. Contacting Canon was the solution that worked for me. First I emailed, but decided I didn't want to wait for their response. A call to Canon Tech Support (1-800-385-2155) was quick and painless. They will more than likely send you a new cartridge, but you'll need to have your serial # & date of purchase handy.
I have a Canon MP530 printer. Alarm light is on. Message on says" Paper Jam, Remove paper." There is no paper jammed. I've spent almost 1hr 30mins trying to find any paper jammed in the rollers, but there's nothing.
I'm so frustrated and am giving up. Please can you guide to a clear solution.
Thanks,
Patrick Kasten
Yes, I have the same problem too. I used to swear by Canon but no more. I'm ready to heave this printer out the door.
My Canon MP530 printer says to replace all ink cartridges. I did! The copy, alarm and feed switch lights are on but not blinking. I'm going to chuck this printer and get something more reliable from the thrift store! All I did was replace the ink cartridges with genuine Canon ink cartridges now this. My kids have homework to print. This thing is completly useless. Think Epson.

I just had the error message V130 - check ink cartridge. I held down the stop/reset button for about 5-10 seconds and the problem was solved!
I have had the same problem with my MP530. I called Canon technical support. I do not have my receipt for the printer and don't know the date of my purchase, but they waived the $9.99 technical support fee after I politely asked, "You are going to charge me $10 to help me fix something that's wrong with YOUR product???" I was having the problem with my cyan tank and repeatedly getting the U150 error reading. Apparently the sensor chip is faulty on some of the tanks we buy -- in my case two that I've bought from Staples. The technical support guy is going to have one sent to me from a Canon facility in SC, and says that one should work. But I'm thinking I also need to return the ones I purchased from Staples since they are obviously faulty. And hope that I don't continue to get faulty ones when I replace my ink in the future.
If the ink cartridge sent to me from Canon doesn't work, then I'll call Canon again and take it from there...

I replaced Cyan cartridge and the warning light continues to blink. Now, the Magenta is also blinking (with a new cartridge) at a fast (3x per 2 secs) and the yellow has started blinking about once every two-three seconds. It too is new.
The "Ink Low YMC" message is displayed. Ihave replaced all the cartridges, taken the new ones out and reinserted them, turned the machine off and on several times with a half hour "down time." I have also hit the reset button.
How do I get the lights to stop blinking?
replaced all cartritages with new ones and it still show ink low message
Have placed a new pgbk5 ink cartridge in, ensured it has clicked in and the light is on. Close cover and message reads check ink U150 5Bk. Open cover to check and the pgbk5 light is out,
it's sooooooooooo freak** frustating. the ink 8b always has problems. the alarm light is always on because of it. what's up with that?
I keep having the same problem on the Magenta cartridge will not work
Keeps saying check ink
Any ideas anyone??
Alarm light goes on. Magenta cartridge light is off. Cartridge is reseated and light is lit as it should be. When lid is closed, alarm light goes on again and magenta cartridge light is off when checked.
Cartridge is properly seated, but printer does not seem to recognize it.
Magenta goes out on mine. I open the cover. The magenta light is off. I pop it out and pop it back in the ink lamp goes on. I close the cover, the printer does its stuff and the "Check Ink U150" message goes on again for M.
Alarm light on, error message reads U150 Y problem. Just installed this tank
Same problem with CLI-8C
Flashing yellow cartridge. There's plenty of ink. I keep re-seating the cartridge it and turning the printer off and on.
New, original PGBK 5 cartridge put in, but the cartridge won't light and the alarm light is on. I have powered on and off twice, taken out all the cartridges and replaced.
I'm having the same problem with the cyan cartridge, though I know there's ink in it...I replaced it very recently. I'm on a Mac (OSX), so I hope anyone who posts a solution can help me, too.

Yes, I called Canon Tech support and they sent a new cartridge to fix this problem. Make sure you have warranty on your printer to get free ink cartridge.
Unfortunately, this "All in one printer" becomes useless, when this problem arises. Because other functions such as scanning and faxing are disabled, even though these two functions do not need ink.
According to Canon's Tech support, there is no solution, if you have to fax or scan the docs/pics etc. when the chip in ink cartridge fails.
i have the same problem, except my error is Check Ink U130 5BK.
Had the same problem (U150 Y), called the Canon Canada number (800-OK-CANON) and they are going to send me a new cartridge. This was not quick and painless however, as the service person first wanted me to go buy a new cartridge myself. Also they need a fax of the receipt which I can't do from home because of the cartridge error. I have to go out and send the fax, which will be processed by Canon in 3-5 business days and then another wait for the delivery time.
I have the same Problem and I am ready to throw it out the window. I use A LOT of ink and every other cartridge has the same problem. I can not wait for cannon to reimburse me every time and there is no gaurantee that what they send me will work. I am taking it back
Canon mp-530 paper jam message, no paper stuck, a clicking sound in the back left corner, looking for the problem. Tryed unpluging the printer to shaking it upside down to see if a peace of something will fall out . probem remains Glenn e-mail [email protected]
I have the same problem, except it is the cyan cartidge in my case. Before finding this web-site, I had tried most or all of the same things others here have: Remove the cartidge and re-install, at which point the red light goes on, only to go off again just as soon as the printing head moves "back into battery"; clean all the contact points on the cartridge, carrier and printing head, etc., etc.
So it's the chip in the cartridge. Guess I'll go buy another and keep my fingers crossed...too much down time to wait for a Canon-supplied replacement!
My problem is exactly the same - mainly the small black cartridge and the cyan - pretty soon the cover door will also be broken from being opened and closed sometimes 40 times in a day, with each closure becoming harder and faster - thank goodness for extended warranties!
U150 message for large black tank on my MP830 and the alarm light is on. Reseating the tank has not worked.
my printer won't let me do anything, print, scan, nothing? The ink was changed recently what can I do?
Black tank is FULL of ink. Message reads Tank empty - all operations cease. Now I know why I could buy this piece of crap for $85! Nice one Canon
I have same problem, customer service suggested that I take all cartridges out and put the back one at a time. the display still gave the same message, and the printer/fax/scanner still did not work.
set ink cartridge is continous
I have tried everything, but nothing helps.
I have a new canon 1800 AND WHENEVER i WANT TO PRINT THE PAPER GOES THROUGH ONE SIDE AND IT IS JAMMED.
U043 error and light on after installing new Canon ink catridges. Previously 2 year old MP530 had worked fine.
What is fix?

Wow... I'd say Canon's CLI cartridges are a disaster.
I can totally relate to the idiotic error messages.
By the way, there is SUPPOSED to be a 'clear ink error message' button one can access.
According to the User's Guide, when the Stop/Reset button is held down for 5 seconds, the MP530 is supposed to allow the printer to continue printing. However the printer error release button feature does not work as it's supposed to on this machine.
These printer companies just extort consumers for the outrageous price of ink.
Thanks for the links and tips...

Same prblm replacing Canon MP530 ink cartridges. Error light won't go off, even though tanks are full.
Check Ink U150 - but the cartridge has plenty of ink. Holding down the Stop/Reset button does nothing.
My printer says that it is not allowed to use more than one color ink cartridge per slot--there isn't!!! it said the yellow was out, so we replaced the yellow, now the magenta is blinking and it says that there is more than one color in that cartridge spot, or something to that matter???!!!!
I literally need to open the cover and let the cartridge runs. For my 2-month old printer, it's the black cartridge that the printer cannot detect all the time. When that happens, I need to lift the black cartridge up then put it back in place. After all the hassle, you can finally print the docs.
So I need to buy a new printer because it's unfixable??!!! It was mentioned that tech support said there is no solution according to a post I read.
Bye bye CANON !!
Same problem. U150 on two of my canon printers. I now have a collection of Canon Ink cartridges that are half full. Time to buy Epson, this is ridiculous.
I would like to know how I could get my printer work again cause already has new ink and that light still on, if ya could help before I take it to Staple to see if they could fix it for me
