Rebecca, I don't know if you ever received a solution, but after my experience with my White 2038, I would advise you to do exactly what you said. "Throw it out". I've struggled for a week with a new machine, found parts missing after opening the box and generally feel ripped off. I am throwing mine out! I purchased a Singer yesterday and it is sewing beautifully with no problems.

Pls chk your bobbin locking at fixing shaft grew or not. on bobbin a sliding locking plate locks at shaft. while keeping in case chk that is loked by pulling. if it dosent lock , change bobbin with spare one.

Please first remove the first needle and presserfoot. After If you're experienced with sewing on a sewing machine, don't be afraid to make changes to your bobbin tension and bobbin case. Or you gone to mechanic shop. Then you will buy a check correct case size bobbin.

Bobbin stuck on bobbin winder spindle

you might have to use some force but not enough to break
the bobbin winder spindle. it's also possible that there is something
wrong with the bobbin for it to get stuck on the bobbin winder spindle
like that.

it's sounds like the machine could be out of time & the machine needs to be checked at a sewing machine shop, to find out for sure.

I am having problems with my bobbin. Every time I load it and start to sew it gets jammed and the needle stops. There is a mess of thread around the bobbin.

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

Bobbin jumps out of place while I'm sewing and jumbles the thread. I took it to a repairman, it worked for about 3 weeks. Now, same old problem.

I had a similar problem but found it only happened when I used plastic bobbins. I've been using metal bobbins and haven't had the problem again. Hope this helps.
