Sound is fine for awhile and then goes off and back on at random

you have most likely a shorted hori out out NTE2324 and look around hori there is a 1200pf 2k volt cap that goes bad.I have fixed alot of sonys with this problem.

If the adjustment of the screen settings does not fix your problem, its likely that one or more of the CRTs (picture tubes) is defective.
And, the CRTs for these sets are hard to find and expensive.

I just had the same problem. If your lucky it might be a free 5 minute fix. The five light flashes mean impropper current. I took the front grill off, then behind that is another black cover, I took that off and noticed the circuit boards COVERED in dust. I then took an air can duster and blew off all the dust... works like new. No more flashes and in an out picture. The collection of dust was interfereing with the electrical current.
