Auto clean problem

Hi, I have the above build in oven which is about 8 years old. Since, some time the auto clean and broil function of the upper oven doesn't work. However, the regular baking function does work. I took the back panel out and the has no reset button as described with some models. Do I have to replace the thermal fuse to fix that problem? I thought if the fuse is gone the regular baking wouldn't work either. Thanks, a lot for your support!

Hi alfacinha190 , I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Does the broil element (top element) get hot as the oven heats up?

Hi Scott, it's the same situation with the cleaning and broiling function. It's turning on and sounds like it's working, but it's not heating at all. And, the broil element does heat up. But, the regular backing works. Can it be the thermal fuse?

Hi, I did a continuity check of the thermal fuse and it seems to be ok. Here again the problem: I have a double Whirlpool oven GBD307PR. The lower oven works well, but the auto clean and broil function of the upper oven do not work. It starts and sounds like it's working, but it doesn't get hot at all. However the regular baking works well at the upper oven. What can it be, if not the thermal fuse? Thanks!

You say you checked the thermal fuse but did you check the broil element for continuity. Most ovens use the broil element for the clean function. The thermal fuse will shut off both the bake and the broil element.

Thanks, for the help. Checked the broiling element for continuity and it's gone. Just ordered a new one. Thanks again!

Our Whirlpool oven just started doing the same thing!!!! The Delay Start Time (setting it for one minute ahead) and then Start works just fine.  But we fried the tops of three loaves of homemade bread!!!!
Is Whirlpool just a bad brand for ovens?

SOURCE: whirpool rbd275yPDT11 no power after auto clean

I printed down the installation sheets. I could not locate the thermal fuse on the control panel (which was the easiest to get to without removing the oven) so I went ahead and removed the oven. The upper and lower thermal fuses were fine. I put in back into the wall and my husband found the control panel thermal fuse--it was in-line--so we tested it and it was bad. I could not find anyone online that carried this fuse-or even knew the name of it. After much hard work we finally got the info off it--Microtemp KLBALY G4A00 TE 110C. Nowhere could I find a replacement except for something I am hoping is comparable online at Goodman (?). So while I am waiting for the fuse, I went to Radio Shack who had a thermal inline fuse rated at 128C for coffee pots and hair dryers. Also got some fully insulated crimp on connectors. Hooked it up and it works--havent cooked yet--to do cookies soon to test it. So far it seems like everything is running ok. I WILL NOT EVER USE THE AUTO CLEAN again. I dont get why the company has let it lie without helping unknowing consumers

Check for correct voltage at plug, in the mean time the oven will be disconnected from any power, see if it resets with no power for 10 minutes

SOURCE: Whirlpool Double Oven RBD305PDB7 - Upper Oven Won't Heat

I have the single oven of this style and I had to replace the thermocouple (part number 4450934) on the back of the oven three times (used the cleaning cycle three times). After using the cleaning cycle, the oven would not heat so each time I had to pull the oven out from the wall to access the back so I could change the part. Once a new part was put on the back of the oven, it worked fine. To pull the oven out, open the oven door and look down by the doors hinges. On each side you will see a screw that's holding the side molding on. Remove the screws and then the molding. That will give you access to the screws that hold the oven into the framing around the oven. Remove the screws and then you can pull the oven out to access the back to change the thermocouple. The oven is heavy so you may want some help to get out. It is not a one man job, maybe a one man and wife job. It is heavy. I hope this helps. Better late than never.

What is the purpose of the WLP83800 "AUTO" Oven Function?

If the button in question is on the top left of the control panel, this is for Automatic Convection Bake. This is the control panel picture, http://www.youserguide.com/wiki/Whirlpool_Use_and_Care_Guide_-_9782476-011 ; the word Convection is below the top pair of buttons with Auto to the left. Set the oven temperature to the regular setting for your food. The oven will reduce the temperature to the appropriate temperature for baking with the convection fan running. You do need to check the food more frequently. See http://www.youserguide.com/wiki/Whirlpool_Use_and_Care_Guide_-_9782476-016 .

    I hope this helps.

The control switch may be bad on it. If there are 2 elements on the top, they both are not bad at the same time.Check to see if the wires have not burned off the control switch first. Check to see if your breakers are O.K. Turn them both(maybe 3) off and then reset.

    Bottom oven not working

It is quite possible the control electronics have failed. There are separate relays for the upper and lower ovens. Ours recently failed the upper oven with the same symptoms and it was the electronic control. The other part is the overheat thermal sensor for the oven may be out.
