Unplug it and let it dry out. Place it on old newspaper and start. Check the paper and look for the wet spot. That will let you know where the water is coming out of the unit. Check that area, it is probably a bad seal on the drain or a crack in the water container.

SOURCE: Dehumidifer Runs but doesn't collect water

Depends on he conditions of the water. These units are relatively inexpensive and typically do not justify the expense of repair. I'ld donate it to an air conditioning school and buy another one.

SOURCE: Product is about 6 years old. Used in basement.

There is some service that you can do ... Clean the filter and the cooling coils, regularly. Check the humidity level that you have the unit set on. It may be set to low and there's just not that much humidity in the air at this time, for it to collect. From what you said, it sounds like you may have it set on continuous cycle which could account for the lack of a lot of water in the bucket. In continuous run, the fan stays ON all the time. It's supposed to do that, so that the air is constantly moving and the sensor only turns the compressor ON, if it senses a humidity level 5% higher than what you have it set for. Try running the unit on a 1 or 2 hour cycle (if your model will do that) rather than continuous cycle.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi! My home dry 660 collects water but also has started leaking onto carpet? Is this a big fix? It is probably about 10years old!

not that big of a job ! it just needs a good cleaning out, start by unhooking power and then remove outer case , look inside at area that has lots of fins !! fine aluminum ones !! there should be a water tray just below the fins ! im betting this is well garb'd up with yuk!! take a 50/50 water bleach solution (gloves would be a good idea too) and work some f this around in the tray till it loosens up , remove with old towels or rags (throw em away) and find the drain hole in the tray that allows the water to drain into collection pan and poke down it with the end of a old pencil to clean it out as well (don't use metal) don't forget to clean your fan blades off too before reinstalling cover and leveling unit before reconnection power

I have a whirlpool dehumidifier it is on but will not absorb and water from my carpet

Interesting problem. By the time you read this your carpet is full of mold. You need to put a blower under the carpet to move air through it. The dehumidifier will then adsorbe water from the air if it is operating.

Water is leaking from the bottom of my maytag dehumidifier. Noticed the problem over the past 2-3 weeks. I have a carpeted basement and the carpet under and around the unit is soaked. water is...

Robert, The water tubing that runs form the interior of the unit to the water bucket is clogged to solve this problem, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Then do the following.

Remove the water collection bucket and look up inside the bucket holder cavity. You will see either a drain hole or small tubing that drains the water into the bucket. Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hole or tubing. Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will need to gingerly work the Zip Tie past this bend, until it either bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly pull the Zip Tie back out while rotating (twisting) it. This will breakup any clogs. As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared, as some water may follow. Reinstall the bucket, plug the unit in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run, while you monitor it for any leakage.

NOTE: Is you don't have access to a Zip Tie, you can use something similar that flexible, like a long pipe cleaner. But, NO wire coat hangers.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

UNIT IS LEAKING WATER BUT WATER BUCKET IS EMPTY

If the hose is attached the previous answer seems valid and correct. However, I have had a AD75UST0 WHIRLPOOL Dehumidifier for several years. I noticed the port where the water collects to drain into the "tub" sometimes gets a slimy fungal growth on it. This is something that should be routinely cleaned . Just pull out the tub and look at top of Tub compartment. then wipe the portal with a cleaning cloth (use Lysol or similar if desired). This method helped mine significantly from "leaking". In the long run I placed a rectangular storage tub lid under it to protect carpet.

Dehumidifier is running but very little moisture is accumulating in the tank our carpet is soaked so it should be removing more moisture than it is.

In the is a wall to wall carpet, it's going to take a while. If you have a wet/dry shop vac, you can speed up the process by using the shop vac in wet mode. This will remove a great deal of water and then the dehumidifier will take care of the rest. Remember, it it's wall to wall carpet, the pad underneath is soaked too. So the dehumidifier alone, will really be struggling with it for at least 24 hours.

If it's and area rug, vacuum it to. Then drape it up off the floor over a couple of saw horses or wooden chairs, so the the dehumidifier will fit under one end like a tent. That will dry it out with in 4 or 5 hours.

Last solution, borrow another dehumidifier from a friend and run both at the same time.

Hope this helps you solve your soggy problem.

My Haier dehumidifier Model #39R171E is operating intermittently. The bucket is not full - power is on - temp in room says 59- do I increase the humidity to get it to work? Have a large amount of water in...

If your carpet is wet ... like mine was ... the best thing to do is bite the bullet and get the carpet out of your basement or where ever it is ... so your dehumidifier has a chance.

You reduce the % on the machine to reduce the humidity in your room. You should probably also get some fans going.

I have removed my carpet and padding and everything that I can reasonably remove from the room. I have 4 fans going and 2 dehumidifiers and two sump pumps. I also keep the windows open in the day time because it is more dry outside than in the basement. I have heat in the basement which I run at night. My goal is to save my house from damage due to moisture. It will be a good month for the electric company, that is for sure.

I'm sorry you are in this perdiciment ... I'm sorry for me too. My carpet was less than a year old and we have not had any water in the basement for 30 years.

Maytag Dehumidifer still works, but is leaking

Well life span is 3-15 years depends how long and hard you run them. 45 pint is about 1000sqft basment. rule of thumbs bigger better. run less and do a better job. I would start by filling the bucket and place in a dry shower see if you have a crack. cant find a source for the bucket discontinued this might be your problem. http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-M7DH45B2A-%3d%3di1025984&PartID=1025984 Repair cost are about 40-50 and hour!!!! good luck

My dehumidifier does not collect any water.

One of two things is happening here.

1. Either the compressor isn't running or...

2. The water is not being routed to the collection bucket properly. This dehumidifier has an option to connect to a hose that can be routed to a drain. Look in the back of the unit to see if you see a connection that could accomidate a garden hose. If you see this and there is no hose connected you may be dumping the water on the floor instead of the bucket. This could explain why your carpets are damp.

Not working

Hate to tell you, but it may be a goner. Many units have a rectangular air filter that may be clogged, but I would still expect to see some moisture removal. Without exact model I'll have to be general,.... remove cover (front or back, depends on model) to see cooling coils. If the compressor is running, these coils should be wet or may have a light frost on them for a time. Not = refrigerant leak. (not economical to repair) If you see one small area of ice,... it's also a goner. If the compressor does not run you could have a bad compressor, a bad defrost control, or a bad control / humidistat. Other than the filter or possibly a fan motor, these unit are rarely economical to repair.
