SOURCE: wd my book device usb device not recognized by computer

Hi, Take the drive to a pc store and ask the techs to move the HDD into a new shell and test it for you. Most likely it's ok and you can just buy a new shell/enclosure for it. If that doesn't work it may need the help of a recovery pro. If that's the case comment back here with your country/state/city and I'll pass on a recommendation for a nearby facility that can assist you in retrieving the files. Chris

SOURCE: wd 320 external hdd acting up

WD has had issue with eir enclosures if you fixed the partition there is the possibilityt that you lost information in the process.

On thisng that you can do is remove the drive from the current WD enclosure and buy an new one. Then try to see if youa re able to locate any of your files. Also check to see if it reports any available space if it still does not then the actual hard drive hase the issue and you will need to buy a new one.

How big is a 1 tb hd

A terabyte is a multiple of the unit byte for digital information. The prefix tera means 1012 in the International System of Units (SI), and therefore 1 terabyte is 1000000000000bytes, or 1 trillion (short scale) bytes, or 1000 gigabytes. 1 terabyte in binary prefixes is 0.9095 tebibytes, or 931.32 gibibytes. The unit symbol for the terabyte is TB or Tbyte.

I plugged my wd into my dish dvr it formated, decieded i did not wanna use my 1 tera on this wanna do a smaller drive how do i reformat my wd external hard drive so that i may use it for computer stuff?

If your PC will not recognize the drive now, you will have to use an external formatter program. If it will, thenclick on the drive letter of the drive and choose format from the options menu.

Me too my 1gb mmc does not allow a full 1 gb to be used, when you are able to use the mem to nearly 1gb then the mmc starts to have some problems with the other files. please help

Look... Actually, every storage device don't give its full capacity to be used by the user... Such as, a HDD with 1.5 tera bytes will only give 1.4 tera bytes for us to fill in the data... and it is a natural phenomenon when our system is slow when we have full capacity.. This is normal to everyone.. U should not be worried....

Rams

1GB is 1000MB

Starting from scrap:

1 bit = 0/1 value, this is the real unity

1 Byte = 8 bits (eg : 010110100101 )

1KB=1000 Bytes

1MB=1000KB

1GB=1000MB

1TB=1000GB (TB is tera byte).
