Answering machine with multiple OGM help

I need to get an phone/answering machine for my small business and here is my problem.  It needs to have around 30 minutes or longer of incoming message space and I need to have the ability to easily change the outgoing message on a regular basis.  My current machine is on its way out and it is tape based, so I can record 2 outgoing messages on one tape, hit a button and switch my message instantly.  Then I can swap out the tape and have 2 new messages at my fingertips.  With these new digital machines it seems you can only record 1 OGM at a time and I cannot be re-recording my messages all the time (out to lunch, in but can't get to the phone, closed until Monday etc.)  Anyone have any ideas how to solve this?  It can be a corded or cordless phone or even no phone at all just as long as it meets those 2 needs.  Thanks

How do I set up the answering service

  1. Write up your business plan. A business plan can provide you with a clear outline of what you want to do and how you are going to do it. It can also help you gather your ideas together, fine-tune your business idea, and help you secure funding if needed.
    • Specifically for an answering service business, you need to determine the type of business structure you will be creating, whether it's a proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation. You should mention your services, packages, and pricing structure to determine how much capital you will bring in and how many clients you will need to book to get yourself in a profit margin.
  2. Check with all local, state, and federal guidelines for establishing a telephone answering service. Follow the rules, and file any necessary paperwork to create your business. For instance, do you live in an area where it is legal to work from home? Are there any special guidelines you must follow to work from home in your area? Are there any other zoning concerns?

  3. Open a bank account solely for your business funds. Use the money from this account to purchase your business equipment and pay your utilities. Do not make any personal purchases out of this account. Deposit all business income to this account, and withdraw paychecks from there to place in your personal account.

  4. Invest in phones and phone lines. Start small, because you do not want too many lines and not enough clients to fill them. Look for a phone that features the ability to transfer back and forth from 1 line to another so you can answer and take messages for different clients from a single location. Your phone system should also accommodate several different mailboxes to catch messages for calls that come in when you cannot answer them.

  5. Set up 1 phone line for each business. When you've run out of room for phones or your phone company says you cannot have any more lines, your business has expanded enough to need an office space and additional employees. One line per business is easier to manage than multiple lines for the same client. Starting with 1 line and 1 client will make it easier for you to gauge your workload to determine what you can handle.

  6. Contact various businesses via telephone or email to determine if they are interested in your services. Medical businesses are an ideal place to start because their patient schedule often makes it hard for someone to be available to answer the phone. Use your business plan to pitch your pricing, service offerings, and hours of availability.

  7. Create a file for each business. The file should detail each company's requirements for taking and delivering messages and the hours they want you answering the phones. Place copies of all correspondence, including the messages you take for them, inside this file.

  8. Set your work hours and work accordingly. Be concise in every message, and make sure to include any important details the caller wishes to convey to your client. Send the messages to the client via email or fax. Allow the client to choose the agreed-upon method for receiving messages

It sounds to me you took a power surge on your system, unplug the phone from the wall receptacle, also remove the phone cord from the wall, let it sit for at least 30 minutes or more the longer the better. If there is no change, it is time to replace entire system.

My nokia 3110c shows a message like active incoming call diverts when ever i dial a number what does it mean?

It means that you have set up that incoming calls will be diverted (to your voicemail usually) when your "line is engaged", ie when you talk with someone on the phone.

There are 3 diverts: divert on busy, on not available (switched off or out of range) and on no answer (when you don't answer after a certain period).
Depending on operator, they can be activated or deactivated individually, or all three at the same time. The latter option is bad in my opinion - who needs divert on busy? If the phone is busy, try again in a couple of minutes I say...

Anyway, this message is nothing to worry about.

Brother Intellifax 600 fax machine no longer receives faxes

my Brother Intellifax 600 just started doing the same exact thing out of the blue. I have no desire to get another fax machine as 99% of our incoming faxes are Junk. I will not pay for ink or toner for junk faxes. I would say in our business, it is needed no more than 4X per month. I will tear into the machine in the next few days to see what the problem is and come back and post it here if I have luck

Need to connect ans. machine to single line on a multi line business phone. Help!

Out of box, the AT&T 1738 is designed to operate on a single telephone line. I don't know of any device on the market today that could automatically switch it between multiple telephone lines.

Some options include (in no particular order):

1) Purchasing additional 1738s to cover the other telephone lines.

2) Some cordless telephones on the market are designed to handle 2 telephone lines. Their answering machines will cover both lines. AT&T and Panasonic offer such phones.

3) Check out AT&T's line of NoKSU small office telephone sets. The phones will handle up to 4 telephone lines and 1 model features a built in answering machine. In order for the telephones to function 100% all phones would have to be replaced with the models within the AT&T NoKSU family.

4) If this is strictly a business application, consider purchasing a true business telephone system for the office.
