Starter problem the starter of my copy 10180 is lighted and no copy is lighted .many thanks to any helper .

If you have a test light and a helper it is quite easy. Clip the test light to a good ground and with the probe end touch the large post on the starter. The light should light as this is the positive battery cable from the battery. Now touch the small post, there should not be anything there, have your helper turn the ignition to the crank position and the light should light while you are still touching the small post. This will tell you that everything is working as it should and that your starter is not working properly. If you remove it and take it to the parts store they will be able to hook it up to a test machine and confirm that it is bad, but you just did that. Either way, you will have your core in hand and not have to worry about paying a core charge and then returning to the store when you are finished with the job.

need more info. it could be a bad starter.
is clicking sound coming from starter? have a helper listen under the car near the starter for clicking sound. even have them place their hand on the starter to see if they can feel it click when they hear it click.

hello red.... how aggravating. Check to be sure the chain is not too tight. Check to be sure it has the right mix of fuel and oil, a clean filter, and a new spark plug. Then get a can of starter fluid and a helper. Remove the air filter and have your helper squirt a little starter fluid into the air intake. Once it starts have the helper continue to squirt starter fluid until it will run on it's own, usually a couple of minutes. Joe

Hello rino.... Make sure you have fresh fuel in the tank, a new spark plug, and a new air filter. Then get that can of starter fluid and a helper. Have the helper continue to squirt a little starter fluid into the air intake after you have removed the air filter. Keep spraying until the engine runs for a couple of minutes and takes off on it's own.

IF after a few minutes of doing this drill with the starter fluid it still won't run on it's own you then have no choice but to disassemble the carb. and clean it. Joe

Hello myt.... Make sure the spark plug is good and also that the fuel filter is not clogged. Then remove the air cleaner, recruit a helper and have a can of starter fluid handy. Have the helper spray some startere fluid into the air intake, start it up, and continue to spray starter fluid into the air intake so it runs for a minute or two. That should clear the problem.

If not, your carburator is really dirty and needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Joe

Possibly the starter solenoid clicking. Check the connections on the starter. Should have a small lead on it for the solenoid operation, and a bigger cable from the battery. check that these are tight. Failing that, Try turning the key while rocking the car side to side or by getting a helper to lightly tap the starter with a jack handle. If it starts then, your starter is on the way out ! Hi. You still have junk in your carb. Get a can of starter fluid and a helper. As you run the engine have your helper give it a squirt of starter fluid directed at the air intake until the engine runs smoothly. J.

get a test light clip one side on a good ground then look for a small wire on the starter have someone try and start the car while you have the other side of the test light touching the the nut that is holding the small wire on the starter if the light comes on while the helper is try to start the car the starter is most likely bad but make sure that your battery is fully charged.

2nd click could be fuel pump engaging...what about the fuses under the hood... is there gas getting to the engine?? is there a safety shut off switch that needs resetting? have you checked the ground wire?
