Sony rdr hdc 300 turns itself off a few seconds after you turn it on
The unit is 3 years old. When you turn it on, it turns itself off within a few second. The only thing it allows you to do is change channels, however, when it turns itself off, it does not remember the new channel. I cannot access any other menus, eg system menu, guide, timer, etc. I have used the resent button several times to reboot, but it has not solved the problem.
thanks

1. If your Sony DVD recorder player RDR-GX257's disc recorder has stopped working, don't despair! There are a few things you can try to get it up and running again.
2. First, check to see if the disc recorder is properly connected to your TV and to an electrical outlet. If everything is plugged in correctly, try pressing the "Reset" button on the back of the DVD recorder.
3. If the reset doesn't work, try unplugging the DVD recorder from the power outlet for a few minutes, then plug it back in. This sometimes clears any glitches that may be causing the problem.
4. If the DVD recorder still isn't working, it's possible that the disc itself is the problem. Try inserting a different disc into the player and see if it will play. If it does, the first disc was probably the issue. If the second disc doesn't play either, then the problem is most likely with the DVD recorder itself.
5. If you've tried all of the above and the DVD recorder still isn't working, you may need to take it to a repair shop or contact Sony customer service for further assistance.
The laser on your drive is probably beginning to go out of alignment.
A plastic grub screw holds the laser carriage at the correct angle on the slider rods. Over time, this screw will get worn down and the laser carriage will begin to lean too far over to one side. This grub screw will need to be tightened slightly to bring the carriage back to the correct angle. I suggest turning it a quarter of a turn (clockwise) and testing it. Repeat a few times until it works correctly.
Try changing the "command mode" switch on bottom right corner of remote. Setting 3 is the default code. This setting must match the setting in the system setup menu.
Problem was solved by Holding down the "ENTER" button for no less than 10 seconds and after releasing it press "SYSTEM MENU". This will take you to the setup screen on your TV.
where all settings can be made from there by following the on screen directions.
It turned out to be the three door attachments that weren't lined up. It has been fixed. We almost bought a new one because Samsung referred us to a service that would have charged way too much to be worth it even thought the machine is only 3 or so years old. Luckily, we looked further. A local independent appliance fixer came to the house and took care of it within a few hours of my call! Yea!
Turn off recorder. Hold the on/off button on the dvd player for a few seconds. until "CHILD LOCK" disappears. The child lock is now disengaged...Check page 37 in the manual (I found it online -- same thing happened to my player -- I just freed it) www.manualshark.org/manualshark/files/4/pdf_6908.pdf
