When I plug in my SmartDisk it doesn't show up in the list of drives in "My Computer". Also the screen shows Capacity 0.0GB and Free Space as 0.0GB. The light does come on.

I am having this same problem now too. It worked the first two times I used it, now - when I plug it into my pc/laptop (windows xp) I don't get any prompt showing it's attached. I try to open the (e:) drive - but it's not reading. Help?

Orange battery light comes on and the computer says low battery. Computer does not work even when plugged in to wall outlet. I don't think it is the adapter because blue ring on plug in to the com

Diagonizing and analysing this problem, it's obvious that the orange light means battery low.
Have u ever tried charging the laptop with another charger/adapter?
If no try it because some adapters/chargers don't work with some laptops. Also be careful to use the recommended adapter, some can spoil the laptop's panel.

hi Liz:) this could be the end of the drive or it could be somthing simple like a bad usb cable or port. im assuming you are using a windows operating system. first attach the external drive to your computer. then goto start menu and right click on "computer"(my computer for XP)/ select manage/ select storage/ select disk management/ now look for your drive. if you don't see it try a different usb port(s). if you still cant see it try a different usb cable(s). if none of this works try plugging the external drive into another computer just to be sure but if none of this works then the drive is shot sorry:( hope this helps but if you have any more questions just ask:)

Does it work with Word 2010

I don't understand your question.

Normally a device (your floppy drive) is not operated by an application (Word 2010), rather, the device is operated by your operating system. I presume your operating system is some version of Windows and I presume your floppy is a USB device. That being the case, when you attach your floppy to your computer, the operating system identifies it as a resource. When you open your application (Word 2010), one of the 'save' options should be your floppy drive. If that drive doesn't show up directly, you may select it from a list of devices offered by Windows through save window that appears when you click SAVE..

The direct answer to your quesiton is ... there should be no reason to think the drive can not be used with the application. You can save (a document) to any device that is available to your computers operating system, even those shared through other computers on your network.

If I missed the ball, please clarify your question. If I did hit the mark, please remember a favorable evaluation for this response will be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest in today and please come again.

MY Apple computer all of a sudden is not recognizing my 160GB Firelite. It has power but when plugged in the icon won't appear on the desktop and I can't access the drive? Was working earlier in the day.

Try going to utilities in the applications folder, in utilities select disk utility and see if the drive shows up, if so select repair disk after selecting the SmartDisk. If not showing select your hard drive and run repair permissions and see if it helps. Failing this you need a 3rd party disk repair solution like DiskWarrior. The information is still there!

I have a smartdisk Fire Lite external harddrive - When I plug it into the usb hub the computer does not acknowledge it

If you power up the drive and you can feel that the drive is actually spinning, a periodic clicking noise is bad news.
Does the computer make a sound when you plug it in, or does it make a sound.

If the computer recognize when you plug it in, but it just not show in my computer, here is how you fix the problem. Go to:

control panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Disc management

Now you should see your drive in the schematic below. Right click on it and choose the option to change drive letter or paths. Now just assign a new drive letter to the drive, restart your computer and it should work fine.

Best regards

Smartdisk 160GB Crossfire hard drive

I had this same problem. One option is to open the smartdisk up. It should have a seagate ata drive inside. Attach it to a computer as a slave drive. Your dive will appear as a secondary drive on your computer. you should be able to get all your files off the drive. If your worried about voiding your computers warranty you can buy a usb adapter to make the drive act as an external drive. I highly recommend never using this drive again. I used it as my main hard drive and it fried on me. If you plan on getting rid of this drive let me. I need the circuit board to get my music files and portfolio off my failed drive. Thank you.
