Can you tell me how to remove the hard drive from my HP laptop and where the hard drive is? I want to get rid of my laptop but I am selling it cheap and do not want any of my info on there.

This is well past when the original question was asked, but there may be others who need the help.

The HDD is located EXACTLY under the keyboard. Unfortunately I don't have pics or a video, but I can take you through a quick step by step process.

1: Close the laptop and view it from the rear where all of the ports are. There are 2 hinges for the screen. Remove the 2screws that or in those hinges. They are only holding a plastic cover in place.

2: With the screws removed, open the laptop and open completely, so the laptop is laying flat open. At the top of the keyboard is the button panel and removes fairly easily. Use a small and thin flat tip screwdriver to carefully lift up this panel. I started from the right side as it is easier to pop off. The left side is a little more stiff. Once you get most of the right side up, gently pull to the right and wiggle carefully top pull the panel completely off.

3: The set screws for the keyboard are now exposed. There are 4 of them. Remove them and you should easily be able to lift the top of the keyboard and fold it gently towards the front. Do not pull or disconnect the keyboard.

4: The Hard Drive should be completely visible now. There are 4 screws holding the caddy down. Loosen these screws completely. They should not come out. After the screws are loose, pull on the strap at the front of the caddy. Pull straight up firmly and carefully. You may want to jiggle it slightly to work it up, and be prepared for it to pop out on you. It can be in there pretty stiff, and you don't want to damage any thing.

5: If you need to, remove the drive from the caddy, take the connector on the drive pins off first, and then remove the 4 screws attaching the caddy to the HDD.

Closing it up should follow smoothly in reverse order.

Hope this helps.

you can do this a couple of ways.  you can run a FDISK on it to wipe evereything.  this takes are of the partition.  You should then run a low level format.  This is a good way to wipe it out.  Google low level format and there are some free softwares out there for it.

    Thanks

How to wipe a hard drive

Easiest was is to reformat the drive or reinstall your windows OS as a new install. Either way, will reformat the C: drive and wipe all data from the drive. You may have a security program that allows you to shred data. That, too, will work as it actually removes data rather than just removing the indexing files pointing to the date, such as emptying your waste basket does.

Time for an external hard drive. Prices are excellent for large capacity hard drives too. Down load CCleaner. It's a free program that gets rid of useless files left behind when web surfing. You can pick uo a huge amount of disk space using this program.

How to format compaq laptop nx6110

Hi

you could try to do this

Please try to save any files or pictures that you need before you do this either to a usb spare hard drive or a usb pen drive because you will loose it all if you format or reinstall windows

press the power on key as well as the F11 key
hopefully this will take you into the factory restore
which will format the hard drive while it restores

if you just want to format the hard drive itself then you could remove the hard drive
connect it to another computer via a usb cable and use the other computer to format the hard drive that you removed

or there are some good software out there that you can bootup with and format your drive without removing it from your laptop

a bootable spotmau would do the trick but its not cheap to buy
norton system works is another good software

pleasse let us know if this has helped you
many thanks

Disk clen up

first start by getting rid of all the mp3's that might be on your hard drive. Download www.ccleaner.com and run it- it will get rid of most of the temp files on your hard drive. Go into add remove programs and delete unneeded programs. Online support can help you do this too. Try www.plumchoice.com they can fix it over the internet!
What you probably need is a much bigger hard drive- they're cheap, but you might need help installing it, and setting it up. A local computer guru can do this easily.
