Ice tastes like plastic. New LG French Door.

After three months ice still tastes terrible. We have thrown out all initial batches of ice to no avail. This LG has plastic water feeder lines. Could they be the cause? We CANNOT use the ice from this (bottom freezer) unit. The icemaker is NOT in the door; it is in the bottom freezer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion. I will research a source for the part(s) and update the thread as to any progress.

This model has NO filter. It is icemaker only and LG didn't think it necessary to filter water for making ice, only for drinking. Seems silly to me, and I am very disappointed in this design flaw.

Not sure how to proceed; icemaker is unusable at this point.

Why would ice from the front door have an off taste but the ice in tray in the bottom freezer tastes fine?

I don't see from the literature that this model dispense ICE from the "front door." The dispenser on the left door seems only to dispense water. In your configuration the water comes through a completely closed system until it reaches your glass and should therefore not have an order or taste different from that of your cubes in the bottom Freezer.

LG LCD22720ST btm freezer, ice tastes like plastic

I have the same problem. I bought an lg French door fridge 6 weeks ago. The ice cubes still taste like plastic. I continually empty the ice bin hoping that the next batch of ice will taste normal. Nope.
There is nothing in my freezer with freezer burn. My previous fridge had an ice maker and there was no problem whatsoever. I had copper tubing. When they delivered this fridge which is 3" wider they said I needed to buy a different supply line because the copper didn't allow it to come out far enough from the wall.

Ice maker is makeing bad tasting ice water supply is good no bad taste in water , can it be cleaned

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.

Ice tastes like plastic. New LG French Door.

I sure hope you are using an in-line filter for starters, then if the ice still tastes bad, check the source line.

Bad water & ice cube taste

Hello redwood City
Welcome

You said,
Your Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. You replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and that didn't help. You replaced the copper tubing again with plastic tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Your tap water doesn't taste this bad.You bought a Kenmore french door fridge with water dispenser in the door in July 2008. The fridge has a filter. A few weeks after the fridge came the water and ice started tasting really bad, unlike any bad water taste I have ever tasted. And your tap water is fine. The bad taste appears to be random. Sometimes you get a cup full of nasty water and sometimes it tastes fine.

First you must know you have a 1 year warranty and can have them come out to fix anything, no charge. If it persists. You will have to get tough and you , MUST INSIST THEY REPLACE YOUR FRIDGE

When installing the water line these were a part of the directions!
Did you do this before connecting the water line to your fridge?
"Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and
turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is
clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the
copper tubing."

Whirlpool remedy
Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice
1.Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or
off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice.
2.Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice
away and make a new supply.
3.Does the freezer and ice storage bin need to be cleaned?
See “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin.”
4.Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped
properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help
prevent odor transfer to stored food.
5.Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter
may need to be installed to remove the minerals.
6. Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or
dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration
system needs additional flushing. Run additional water
through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration
system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to
7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Let me know what works,
Thank You ,
HUUUM!!
